My question concerns a VS2 clarity diamond. My understanding was that inclusions could not be seen by the naked eye with this grade of clarity. While I cannot see anything looking at the crown of the stone, from a side view two dark specs are clearly visible. Do appraisers only consider the top view of the stone? Does this seem like a fair rating?

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Yes, clarity grades are assigned from a "face up" view. From the side or bottom it's like looking through a window pane, with inclusions often easily seen. It's not uncommon to see VS inclusins from that direction.
