Hello,
Based on our research on PS, we contacted Chubb to get insurance on my ering. Thanks to PS, we found an agency in our area that was actually recommended here. Things have been pretty straightforward, except for a couple of things. I hope someone here can help us understand what''s going on.

The diamond is mounted in a temporary setting. We need to send the diamond to a jeweler in CA, have it reset in the new setting, and then sent back to us. Chubb has said that they cover the ring while in transit, but that "while it is in the jewelers hands his insurance should provide coverage." We know from talking with the jeweler that this is not the case - which makes sense since we didn''t get the stone from him. And, from reading on posts here, I understand that most jewelers follow this practice of covering the diamond only if its theirs (except for a few PS vendors). However, I am a little troubled about insurance not covering the ring. I mean, this is why we wanted insurance. Does anyone who has Chubb know if their policy will cover the diamond in case something happens to it during setting?

It seems like this would be similar to having a ring cleaned. When you take your ring to a jeweler to have it cleaned, does that jeweler accept responsibility if it gets chipped while there? I would assume not, since they don''t know the characteristics of the stone. Would Chubb cover that?

Hopefully we are worrying needlessly (it''s a VS2 with no flaws on the girdle, so hopefully less likely to chip or crack during setting). Still, it would be nice to get a definite answer.

One more question--this is sort of worrisome for me. We haven''t been able to get a copy of the actual policy to read the terms (Masterpiece Valuables). Is that normal? It is getting a little stressful for me because I want to make sure we get the coverage we want, insure the ring and finally get the stone set into my "forever" setting. I hope someone here can help with my questions.

we were also aware that Chubb did not insure while the diamond was being set, thats why we chose Jewelers Mutual...they cover the loose stone even while its being set.

i hope you get a better answer from someone else

I have Chubb-they did not cover my loose stone-they required proof that my stone was set. However, I specifically asked if they would cover the stone if it were to be re-set and the rep called the under writer and asked him. She called me back and said that yes it would be covered in that situation. So, if I were you I would call and ask if you will be covered during a re-mount situation.

Mystiqkal and Kasey3,
Thank you for your comments. Kasey3, you have cheered me up.

My stone is set in a white gold setting from the diamond seller. I call it "temporary" only because the stone is going to ultimately be set in an customized setting we bought from another PS vendor.

BTW, I messed up the heading on this post and reposted under another one. This is the link to the second post: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/no-coverage-during-resetting-is-this-true.89857/
