The jeweler selling stone number two says that this diamond is a "low end SI1" because it has a black crystal and indented natural. But the jeweler selling stone number 1 says it''s eye clean.

2. See attached. It''s close to identical on the paper, except its 1.78 carats, but the seller says its a high end SI1 because the flaws are light in color. The difference is stone two costs $15,238.

All I care about is the appearance of the diamond. Is stone #1 a "low end SI1?" Also, should I care what type of inclusions an SI1 has if the seller says that it''s eye clean?

numbers on 2 are as safe as it gets w/out images

crown and pavilion for #1? or just post the gia report number here

I don''t know the crown and pavilion. It''s stock number D11004652 on brilliance.com It doesn''t list the Cert number.

Im going to take a crack at this. Im fairly new though.

As far as inclusions go, "high" SI1 vs "low" SI1, i think that is for you to decide. First of all, you have to make sure what your vendor''s definition of eye-clean is. Usually, it means that you can not see inclusions from 8 inches away, glancing at it from top up. The inclusion plot on the 2nd diamond looks really good. If the 1st diamond has a black crystal, it can be eye-clean but you might be able to see a black dot with your eyes by looking at it from the side. Ive seen diamonds like this and it bothers me. Bottom line is that you have to ask your vendor and decide for yourself.

As far as the light performance of the 2nd diamond, it definitely looks like it has a lot of potential. It scored a 1.1 on the HCA and I think the angles and percentages are within ideal ranges. As far as the 1st diamond goes, we would need the crown and pavilion angles to know more. Finally, if you can get an idealscope image of both, the experts on here can help with that.

I think you are on the right track though. good job

That is incredibly helpful. Thank you.

I think I am going to go with stone number 2. I will send pictures once I receive it.

I''m also going to the nyc diamond district saturday to compare stone 2 to what they have to offer. I''ll let you know how it turns out.

There's a form to request it on the website if you are still considering it.

I''ve requested it and will post it once I receive it. Thanks.

the 1.78ct looks good on paper.

I went with diamond number two from above. I have two questions:

Is there anyway to see the hearts in a 1.78 carat round with the naked eye? This diamond says hearts and arrow on one of the sheets that came with it, but I''m having a hard time seeing these.

Also, can anyone tell me how to shrink a picture down to 100kb and still have a high quality picture of the diamond that I can post?

you''ll need a H&A scope.
