Choice between two Diamonds??

Hello,

I was hoping all of you could help me with a dilemma. We have picked out a beautiful platinum engagement & band set. However the jeweler has given us a choice between two diamonds. Help!

Diamond #1 1.00 carat, round brilliant. Measurements: diameter 6.35-6.43mm, depth 3.97mm. Proportions: total depth 62.1%, pavilion depth 43%, table width 59%. Crown angle slightly steep, girdle thickness medium,culet none. Clarity grade SI-1. Color grade G, fluorescence Strong Blue. Symmetry excellent, Polish excellent. Girdle Surface Faceted. GIA certified.

Diamond #2 1.06 carat, round brilliant. Measurements: diameter 6.60-6.62mm, depth 4.0mm(est). Proportions: total depth 60.5%, pavilion depth 42%, table width 56%. Crown angle good, girdle thickness thin to medium, culet very small. Clarity VS-2. Color H, fluorescence none. Symmetry good. Polish good. Girdle surface not faceted.

The grading reports that I have do not display angles, except for stating "good" or slightly steep...

Angles come on GIA, AGS, and EGL reports. Stones with no reports should be sent to GIA or AGS before purchase.

Oh, it is an old style report. 10 years is a long time.

Under the GIA cut grades that have been established since then, it shouldn't make the Excellent grade.

Guessing a 16% crown height to go with the other proportions, looks like you have a crown angle around 38 degrees.

I would tell your jeweler you are looking for GIA Excellent/AGS Ideal stones. No reports, or 10 year old reports, are not going to cut it.

The rings are pre- owned, so these are the two diamonds to choose from. I love the rings so much and both diamonds are pretty to the naked eye. The 1.06 diamond is wider at top so it appears to be bigger but the 1 carat is a little bit more brilliant. Have to choose between the two as the settings & diamond is at a great price.... So confused between the two.

ok, how much do they cost? aren't you just getting the diamonds, and they will go into the setting that you picked?

The 1 carat is already set in the engagement ring. My boyfriend liked the 1.06 diamond in a different setting and the jeweler offered either diamond of our choice as he is willing to switch them. Total of $5000 for platinum engagement ring, wedding band with pave diamonds on both rings totaling about .66 with g/h color and VS clarity & choice of two center diamonds. I should have posted that initially lol
