I''ve been seeing a lot of chocolate diamonds in the stores and online lately but I don''t see any here. No pictures/discussions. Are you guys and gals just not into them? Do you see them as refuse and not as good as white diamonds?

I''m very curious about what you think. The more opinions the better!

I actually encountered an interesting chocolate diamond in my search for a yellow a month or so ago. It was pretty in its own way but I can't imagine a circumstance where I personally would buy one. Just a matter of taste I guess!

I would possibly consider one if I was in the market for a dinner ring, or pendant etc and one appealed to me.

I prefer champagne to chocolate, the darker ones ae just too dark, not enough sparkle.

I have a pair of earrings with .25ct champagne dangles. I love the color, and they throw off lots of rainbow sparkles!

I''ve never actively persued jewelry with chocolate diamonds incorporated into the piece. I love diamonds of fancy colors, but really, unless a diamond is more colorless, I would tend to prefer saving money and getting a colored stone over a diamond of another shade (or fancy colored). But, like I said, I''ve never really looked at chocolate diamonds, so I''m not sure what I''m missing.

Do jewelers generally sell such diamonds that are well cut?

To me, chocolate or black diamonds defeat the entire purpose of having a diamond so I''m not too interested in them. I enjoy the fire and scintillation of a white diamond.

Funny you say that. I actually wear my chocolate ring mostly at night because that is when it looks best. The low lights at a restaurant or theater bring out the sparkles. This is the thread where I posted a picture - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/loved-looking-at-your-rings-want-to-show-mine.64798/
Thanks for the linkie - you have an incredible collection and I love the chocolate diamonds in the ring! Yes, that would be my choice for an evening piece if I ever acquired a chocolate diamond.

I think that they are pretty, but I prefer colored gemstones to fancy colored diamonds (mainly due to price). YOur rings in the link are gorgeous!

(White) Diamonds take care of my love of colourless sparkle. I go to coloured gemstones to satisfy my cravings for colour.

I wouldn't consider those chocolate diamonds?? They look more champagne to me. To me chocolate would be darker than cognac... and those are pretty dark. Maybe they're white chocolate? LOL

ETA: to answer your question, I am still trying to satisfy some "basic needs" in the diamond dept. and while I wouldn't rule those out, there is a lot ahead of them.... I still am not sure what is meant by 'chocolate" but I really have thought the cognac diamonds are pretty... let me see if I can find a pic.

I dunno about white chocolate, but I know they come caramel filled.... yum-o.

Ditto!!

I think that calling them ''champagne'', ''cognac'', and ''chocolate'' is a darn ingenious marketing ploy.

I tend to prefer the colorless variety, or vivid gemstones personally.

This is kind of missing the point. They''re not meant as replacements/competition for colorless bridal diamonds so much as gems in their own right. I''ve seen some I consider very attractive, though there are also some that would have been better off as the industrial diamonds these used to be.

Leon Mege has a beautiful one here.

Skippy123, gorgeous ring! Is Leon a more upscale jeweler? I looked on his site but don''t see any prices, so I''m not sure if this is totally out of reach for me. I understand that one would pay a market price for a stone but what would be a minimum amount for a setting or custom design at his place?

Call him. I have no idea; he is kind of expensive. That ring has been sitting there for awhile so maybe you can call and see what he says.

I think cognac diamonds are very pretty, but I wouldn''t want one for an e-ring.

Personally I like the warm cognac, see this link, I have mine posted there:

Of course I''m lucky, I also have a number of the white variety too. I''m leaning towards yellow next!

lots of jewelry designers i''ve been looking at are fond of rose-cut diamonds (who knows what the quality of these are, i don''t know if potential owners even care!). here''s one i saw on a favorite website that has cognac diamonds: www.twistonline.com. it''s by L Frank and the asking price is $4920!

i love the Leon Mege ring, beautiful color. but i like white diamonds best, better to see all those sparkly rainbows of color.

That is insane! The ring has a interesting style, but the diamonds in it are ick! (sorry to be blunt, but really, $4900???)

Thats pretty much my take on it also.
Iv seen a few that were very well cut that I wouldnt mind putting in a pendant but have also seen a whole lot that were junk.

Well, my view on it is that colored diamonds generally have very high inclusion rates. If there were a lovely brown diamond with low inclusions and excellent cut I would totally go for it--I love the uniqueness factor. It would look lovely in YG with, say, concave cut citritine (sp?)

They can be sort of ugly when not done well though--the brown color can make them just look muddy. "Cognac," my foot...dirty cognac, maybe.

i know what you mean! i think whoever buys this kind of ring really doesn''t care about diamond quality. in fact, the muddy dirty quality of them might actually be praised as "natural" or "earthy". which is totally fine, in my opinion. people can value whatever they want about diamonds or whatever else. i still like them ideal cut, f-h color, and SI clarity.
