Hi,
I have posted here before and ultimately have likely decided to keep my stones in their original setting. There are two stones alongside one another - each just under 1ct. I have been told that they are OECs but they are round.
one has a fairly significant chip in it. I’d think that repairing/recutting would likely lose so much of the diamond that it won’t match the other one anymore.
What would you do? Replace the stone? Recut the existing one? Is it possible to trade in a chipped stone? How would I go about finding a good match for the other stone?

thanks everyone!

Ask to be sure that repair is not possible; it may well be worth having both re-polished to a perfect match & higher brilliance [there are stories around here]. Then, either way, consider setting both in bezels - as sidestones or studs.

Sorry, I meant that I would be resetting to the same setting. :) thank you! I will ask about repair but in this setting I am doubtful...

Maybe the damaged stone could be recut, and bezeled, and placed back into the ring. It would no longer match, but it would be secure and better protected from further chips. Is the ring a sentimental thing, such as an heirloom?

Yes it is, which is why I’m reluctant to change the setting. I would probably be more inclined to take the chipped stone out and replace it with something that matches the other old diamond. Open to other ideas :) I’m not a fan of bezels unfortunately.

I had initially considered doing something else with the undamaged stone and got some great ideas here, but in the end am not sure I want to change the look of this ring... hence my new question.

I have no idea but I just want to say I like your ring very much.

Thank you so much!

The settinh does not seem impossible to adjust to slightly smaller (recut) diamonds. The other options are not convenient at best.

i really love your ring :kiss2:
could you replace the chipped stone and then seeing as the stones are highly sentimental have the stone recut and set into a new ring ?-

then your beautuful ring maintains its look and you still get to wear the recut stone
ive got a thing for pinky rings but you could do a million diffetent things with it

Yes, this is exactly what I’ve been thinking! How would I go about finding a matching stone?

You can send the ring to one of the vendors on the PS list and have them remove the damaged stone and mount a match to the undamaged one. The cost will depend on the diamond and what the jeweller charges for setting. They may also have some ideas about recutting the damaged one. Several vendors can do this for you.

I would talk to Ivy and Rose to see what they have that might match (or what they could get).

You might be able to find something on ebay if you can get up close pictures of the stone you are trying to match.
Would also need the measurements of the stone you are trying to replace...or you could just send it to someone
like I&R and let them handle it.

Great idea, thank you!!! I’m hesitant to send it anywhere but I may try to purchase a loose stone and bring it somewhere here.
