Chipped Cutlet

First of all I''d like to say "Thank You" to everyone on this list for sharing their experiences/knowledge regarding diamonds, e-rings etc. I''ve been reading the posts quite a bit lately, but this is my first post.

Now the questions: Is it common for a cutlet to chip? Also, has anyone had any problems with diamond damage while a ring is being resized or is the gem relatively safe?

Hi,

Nearly impossible to damage the culet in a diamond while sizing the ring, Unless:

(a) The culet sticks out thru the bottom and could therefore chip when placed on a ring mandrel.

(b) It is necessary to remove and reset the diamond in the sizing process and the culet is damaged then.
