Hi everyone

So I recently came into contact with a jeweller to create a custom channel-set baguette eternity ring for my girlfriend. Quite straightforward, this is what my girlfriend wants as a wedding band. I'm doing all the ring shopping alone after she gave me a good brief (she doesn't want to see anything until the wedding day).

She has a ring size of 8(US) / P(UK). With our initial meeting, he told me he had baguettes in stock so I'm quite happy after I met with him for the first time. He showed them to me and they were quite small (apparently they look bigger when set into the ring).

He gave me a call back after we had coffee to give a rough estimate and the number of baguette stones he will need to use (using the one he had in stock) is around 68 baguettes for her ring size. Hhe said he uses a computer programme to calculate it.

My question:

I'm struggling to find or visualize an eternity ring with SO MANY baguettes used. What I can see from all the online examples that there will be between 30-50 stones in a vanilla type of baguette eternity. Obviously her finger is quite big, so there is more needed, but I'm afraid it won't look like I pictured it, or am I just being paranoid?

Obviously the number of baguettes used is dependent on their size as well. Will it look weird with so many stones used compared to other ones? Does anyone have a picture or example of eternity rings with so many baguettes that were channel set?

The brief to him was that it should be elegant, thin and not overpowering, but the diamonds should give it a shine.

Hopefully this makes sense :-)

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, I think there is a disconnect between what you are requesting and what the jeweler is planning - there is no way 68 baguettes would be required for a standard horizontal baguette diamond eternity band... unless you are requesting an unusually narrow width and/or specifying very very tiny baguettes?

As a comparative reference, look at these three listings at The Facets Collection for horizontal baguette diamond eternity bands, each with a slightly different carat weight, width, and height - still, for a size 8 band, these bands only use 20-21 baguettes:

Question 1: Are you looking for the baguettes to lined up horizontally or vertically?
Question 2: Do you know the mm size of the baguettes?
Question 3: Are you aware that a full eternity ring cannot be resized and almost all women do not stay the same ring size their entire lives. More often than not, the ring size will increase as a woman gets older.

Hi everyone

Thanks for the feedback.

Marymm, just to clarify, the stones are vertical (not horizontal). With that, I cannot remember the stone width but they were quite small. Possibly makes more sense now :-)

Chrono, on your side:

Q1: They are lined up vertically.
Q2: As stated above, unfortunately I cannot remember. But they were quite small when he showed them to me.
Q3: Very aware of sizing and possibly changes. Unfortunately the heart wants what the heart wants, so I'm sticking with it.

Thanks all!
