changing the stone

Can the stone be changed in a bezel setting without ruining the bezel?

I''m sure that it can be - even if the bezel has to be repolished. The issue would probably be about size - are you trying to put a larger stone in the bezel? If so, that may cause problems. A good bench jeweler should be able to advise you on this. Good luck!
