I had my heart set on a cushion cut diamond - I thought they were romantic, antique and I loved how they looked.

However, I then saw the round brilliant cut stone next to the cushion and it stole my heart away!

It was bright and white and oh so sparkly!!!!!!!!!

So - I changed my mind and have decided to go with the round brilliant in a custom split shank setting!

Did anyone else experience this? Felt one way but when you started seeing the stones and trying rings on you changed your mind?

Yup! For as long as I could remember I wanted a princess cut stone; until I went and looked at them. I fell in love with step cuts, and very happily received an emerald!

:-) I really wanted an emerald cut sapphire. DH got me a radiant sapphire, which I love b/c he gave it to me and put a lot of effort into selecting. Now I really want an antique cushion diamond (someday, for a RHR)...I''m sure I''ll change my mind again before we can actually afford it though

Mine was the reverse of yours, breakingdawn! I originally wanted a RB and then saw asschers, but ended up falling in love with cushions when for longer than I could remember all I wanted was an RB! Now, I have a beautiful cushion and I couldn't be happier!

I changed my mind as soon as I got on PS and started seeing all the beautiful rings everyone had. Shapes, sizes and settings that I never knew existed. Take your time and keep looking before you make your final decision.

Luckyeshe - I still have a soft spot in my heart fo the cushion cut, maybe one day I''ll get one =)

Swingirl - thanks for the advice! You''re right about this site - I''ve been lurking for a while and seeing the RBs here and then finally seeing the stones in person helped with my decision!

Enough with the lurking though!

I thought I wanted princess or cushion because I like the squared shapes. I have a round brilliant solitaire as my promise ring and thought I was sick of it. But now as I get closer to purchasing, I''m looking at round brilliants! Imagine that.

We women sure can be indecisive.

Yes, that very much happened to me. I had wanted a princess cut and dh and I even purchased one and after about a week, I realized it wasn''t me and didn''t have the umph I was looking for and we went back and traded it for a RB.

Yes, I thought I wanted an EC and then after owning some for a while realized I wanted a more brilliant cut.

Yup. I was going to go asscher (which I still love) but the RB looked so much better on my hand.

Yup - I was always in love with stepcuts, and square or rectangular shapes, so the only stones that I looked at were asschers, emeralds, princesses and radiants. Even though I loved the way asschers looked in the jewelry store, the step-cut design in a solitaire setting just didn''t have enough sparkle for me in real life lighting situations.

So, after going through 3 asschers in a year and a half (my jeweler has a great trade-up policy) I finally just went with a round brilliant, which is what DH really want to get me to begin with (he didn''t care for step cuts or the square and rectangular shapes that I like). I have now had the RB for 2 years, and really love it - I finally have the sparkle and finger coverage that I was looking for. The only thing that I want to change now is the setting, which we''ll be doing in April or May, after I have my baby (I want to put it in a 6-prong solitaire - I am still using the original 4-prong solitiare that we purchased for my first asscher).

I still LOVE step cuts and have fallen in love with cushion cuts too since I got on PS, but I don''t think that I would ever switch from an RB for my ering. Maybe I would do an EC or cushion RHR down the line for an anniversary gift, or even in a colored stone. It is tough once you''re on PS, because there are so many beautiful rings, diamonds and settings. I keep reminding myself, though, of the original looks that I loved before I got on PS - either a solitaire with an eternity band, or a 3-stone ring with an eternity band. Even though I am tempted by haloes and micropave, I keep gravitating back to the classic solitaire and 3-stone styles. I will save the other styles for RHRs.

I wanted a princess cut because as far as I knew, daimonds came in two shapes, circles or squares and I wanted somthing a little bit different.

Once I began reasurching online I found asschers and though they were just the coolest thing....untill I found out the faced up small.

Anyway, we went to try on rings and every RB I slid on my finger just did nothing for me and I felt dissapointed......untill the SA finally handed me a coloured pear with oval sides. It was colourful, different and unique and was BIG (to me) and sparkly so that was it, I was in love.

I appriciate RBs (especially the monsters I see on PS

), I have a rb pendant which is beautiful and will likely get myself some rb studs within a couple of years but I can''t imagine ever wanting anything but a three stone pear or oval as a ring.

I always thought I wanted a round brilliant or a cushion, but fell in love with a princess!

When you love diamonds you will find that most shapes appeal to you in some way. Congrats on getting what you wanted. I currently own a few RB''s, one Princess, one OEC and one Transition Cut diamond. I did have a Marquise that Mom gave me but I gave it back to her when she missed it. lol It now sits in her jewelry box. If the diamond market crashed today I would not lament on how my diamonds are now worthless. Instead I would buy more diamonds. I love them!

hmmm... well I swore I would NEVER get a diamond for my ering

I tried on many rings and decided we could not settle for anything less than a sapphire and diamond ring we designed ourselves

we even bought a sapphire - with the plan to do a double halo and something really deco inspired - nothing large but something intricate

we did CADs meet with a jeweller and even got the stone from Dan Stair

I then proceeded to drop the unset stone down the drain

for days I cried - I was looking at it in the sunlight and had poor judgement looking through a loop (who knew your spacial perception would be so altered when enlarged!)

then we swung in another direction...

I now have my JM OMC (which aside from being a diamond is also much bigger than anything I ever planned to get) and I still stare at it several times every day

... so my point was - that things can change - and you just need to keep looking around

who knows maybe my mind will change again one day - but I doubt it - my heart is now so set on my ring

if you found Pricescope then your eyes will be open to so many things

have fun looking!

As a cushion lover, I just want to make sure you know what you are giving up on! I honestly feel that 90% of the cushions out there are UGLY but there are 5% that are beautiful and another 5% that are drop dead gorgeous. If you get your hands on the 10% of nice stones (try GOG), I am not sure you will still be changing your mind. Your description of "white" makes it seem that you are not comparing a stone of similar quality. Sparkly - there are some cushions (such as square H&A) and modern cushions that rival the sparkiness of a round brillant.

On the other hand, my debate has also been around the setting - split shank or not!

yup i think everyone goes through indecisiveness i sure know i went through it...at first i thought i would be going RB all the way and that was until FI saw an asscher in person and thought it was one of the most unique cuts out there (absolutely no one else that we know has an asscher, or even heard of one before mine...thanks PS

) and now ive been a proud owner for the past 2 years of a beautiful 2.15ct asscher in a cushion halo

Exact Same here, although i went with an Asscher!

Sometimes I am envious of the sparkle of friends RB''s and Princess diamonds, but I love the uniqueness of the asscher, and the vintage look/story.

When I was engaged as a very young person, my then BF/fiance'' insisted that I have a round e-ring because it as traditional and that''s what his brother got his fiance''. When I got engaged to my current keeper husband twenty years later, he insisted that I have a round stone because in his opinion, that''s what e-rings are- round. We couldn''t afford a diamond at the time anyway, so I got a round diamond simulant and wore that in my diamond mounting for years. When I could afford it (after the wedding) I bought my pretty pear, changed the head in my e-ring and I was happy.

All these years later, I''m actually missing having a classic round diamond to wear with various diamond bands. So I''m making myself a second/alternate wedding set so I can choose between WG and YG, and round or pear. It''s the best of both worlds for me

I''ve been wearing my wedding set now for a couple of years and have a round diamond. But, there''s a part of me that will always want a cushion shape. I would still have it set in my Ritani setting. (gears are quietly turning in my head about a way to possibly do this one day....)

Rounds are my favorite, but since coming to Pricescope, I''ve really fallen in love with cushions and would love to have one someday.

I''m in the same position as you breaking dawn well similar...
I really, really thought I wanted a princess cut and actually when I first got engaged that is what I got a princess in a shared prong eternity setting and then after more time on PS I started to yearn for the brilliance and fire and spread of an RB and it just wouldn''t go away so I talked to FI and we switched the princess center to an RB and as soon as it was on my finger I knew I had made the right decision for me.
I don''t regret it at all and my RB makes me so happy
21.gif

And I really noticed a diff in performance and size. I didn''t go up really in carat weight and I gained a lot (to me) in face up size and finger coverage and most of my family and FI noticed immediately and told me that the RB appeared bigger to their eyes compared to the princess that was there before.

I do love the look of a cushion but for me if I were to get one it would be for a RHR and I also favor the clean lines of an emerald but again for a RHR but gosh some of the cushion and emerald and for that matter other shaped e-rings on PS are just to die for...

i was the opposite! I *thought* I wanted a RB but when I tried on rings, I kept favoring the cushion cut rings! That''s what my fiance went with and I couldn''t be happier!

I wanted a princess cut--- until I saw an OEC..

I originally wanted a cushion, but when I started looking at RBs and saw the incredible sparkle, I was sold. So, I ended up with a GIA triple X RB in a halo with custom split shank setting. It''s been about 9 months and I still can''t stop staring at it!
