So I''ve had this little 0.28 marquis stone for quite a few years. It''s just loose now. Wondering how I would go about finding a "match" for it to have some earrings made? I don''t have measurments on it. Is there some way I could get accurate measurements myself to begin searching online for a match? How close do they have to match in color/clarity/size to not look mismatched as earrings?

Find a jeweler to source it for you?

Right - but was hoping to be able to purchase online because the price is so much better.

Well, I'm probably going to commit PS blasphemy with this..

It's small so it's easier to get away with differences in a match - one slightly more chubby, one with a bigger table, more visible bowtie, different colour grade, etc.

So I would get thee a pair of good calipers and prowl 'round online - you can always purchase a promising match online for a few hundred $$, it's not some huge financial burden like an Ering stone

You might try using a local appraiser to get the dimensions and color and clarity.Chances are they also know the local market pretty well and can find a suitable but not perfect match. My wife''s favorite pair.... one point different in size, H-VS-1, F-SI-2,one is a real fireball,I forgot which one.Her ACA''s, perfectly matched..... still in the box every day but one!!!! Go Figure!!!!

I''ve got the color/clarity G SI2. With the marquis I''m concerned about the length to width ratio being off compared to the one I have.

Hmm... I tried measuring with calipers last night and didn''t see anything come up on Pricescope even close to those dimensions. I''ll have to remeasure tonight...

I like the advice of getting an accurate measurement (to the 0.1 mm) of the length and width and searching online. Since they are earrings your face will be in between them so if they are a color grade or two off, I don''t think it will be noticeable. Then again, I am NOT color sensitive.

I have studs right now that are color grade G/H or so and a K. Given, the K is an ideal cut stone and faces up pretty white. Even when the stones are side by side the difference isn''t too noticeable to me. Approaching with this sort of thought in mind might widen your horizons of possible stones.
