Hello friends,

I am new here and am quite the novice when it comes to gems and such.

Could anyone give me more details on the differences among these colors, especially in different light settings? Is the deep blue color too dark in general? I like the royal blue color the most but am afraid it would be too dark in low-light/yellow light/indoor settings.

Ceylon blue: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/209002177/blue-ceylon-sapphire-engagement-ring-in

Royal blue: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/211887037/royal-blue-sapphire-engagement-ring-in

Deep blue: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/243964648/deep-blue-sapphire-engagement-ring-in

Also, what do you think of the pricing? I really like the setting, but am thinking perhaps I should find my own sapphire for it? How much would sapphires of this quality be worth? I think the sizes are around 1ct. to 1.3ct. Or maybe I should just trust the vendor to pick one out for me? What do you think?

Also, if anyone knows of any other vendors selling engagement rings of a similar style, I would love to check out their shop.

Thank you!

Re: Ceylon vs. Royal Blue vs. Deep Blue Sapphire Engagement

Welcome!

The first link (Ceylon) seem like the lightest and possible a contender, but the other two I'd be afraid would be very dark. Usually, we suggest finding the stone first, as getting the perfect stone can sometimes take a while. You can always find a jeweler to make whatever piece you have in mind, but your choices of stones are much more limited. If you're open to hunting for a stone sepreatly, there's a good list of vendors here:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/list-of-vendors-for-reference.208782/

My guess would be a stone like what you're looking at would be $1-2k. Finding nice stones <1k can be done, its just a much more limited selection (and it helps to be open to a variety of shapes). If you read back through the kast 6 months or so of history, there have been several sapphire engagement ring hunters, that might help give you a better feel for pricing on nice stones.

Not entirely sure what you aiming for, but here's a few links in case any of these appeal:

In the sub-1k range:

1500-2k:

https://www.mastercutgems.com/Produ...anka_Blue_Sapphire_1_69_ct-Gem.php?FromPage=1 (might be getting too dark..)
https://www.mastercutgems.com/Produ...ural_Blue_Sapphire_1_47_ct-Gem.php?FromPage=1

2k+:

This is close to the sizes you mentioned, but check out that color - thats what gives it such a high $/ct.

This one looks like a great color, but it's a fair bit more expensive (because its bigger..). The vendor is starting a sale later this week, so it might be one to keep an eye on:
https://www.mastercutgems.com/Produ..._Unheated_Sapphire_2_45_ct-Gem.php?FromPage=1

Larger again, but color wise this is one of my favorites out there atm:

And now we're pushing the budget, but to show the upper end of the price spectrum, this is another of my favorites:
http://www.finewatergems.com/store/p49/1.60_ct_Blue_Sapphire.html

Roger Dery has a number of ~1ct stones listed (shoot him an email about pricing):
http://www.spectralgems.net/sapphire/
From what people have posted, I think the photos don't do those blues justice, and so its likely many of them look better in person, fwiw..

if you really want a round, I'd check if this had sold yet (its being sold by a PS'er):

Ok.. Theres more, but may maybe that helps get you started :)

Thank you so much! That is really helpful. I really like the Ceylon one from Pearlman's!

This one:

I am a bit confused though. I am browsing their other sapphires and the pricing confuses me. Why are ones like these (below) more $ per carat but less in price overall?
http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/gemstones/?sku=LR289992

Also, why does this one cost more than the Ceylon one you posted despite being a similar carat size and seemingly of lower color quality?

I can only assume a typo or error, hence the $/ct is greater than the overall final price. There is no standard for the pricing of coloured stone. Older inventory can sometimes cost less, sometimes the seller purchased it for less and is able to sell it for less, etc.

yeah, that middle link seems like just a typo.

Another differenct between the first and last - the firsh has a slighly wonky shape - its not perfectly round. And the last linked stone faces up a little bigger. Thought ther could be all sorts of other reasons like Chrono mentioned. CS arn't diamonds :)

Heres one that, for the price, might not last long. It might lean a bit to the dark side:

Also, pearlmans and africagems often list the same stock (at different prices). But with africagems having a 25% off sale this week you might want to comparison shop)
