As you probably know, most of the GIA diamonds listed for sale right now are not giving the crown angle, etc. Can you choose a diamond based on table, depth, and diameter (and the rest of the data) as far as the cut goes?
The GIA reports have always been lacking in important cut data. The lab is well respected for the grading, but not for cut grading. You need more data.
Thank you, David. The problem is, most of the stones are GIA graded. There is very little from which to choose with AGS certification. So that leaves one with no options other than to wait until there is a sufficient new supply of diamonds with the new GIA grading or AGS cert. That also may mean passing up a great stone just because it had a GIA certification without the extra measurements.
