Should it be concerning if the diamond you are looking at has a grading date (GIA) of 8 mos. ago? Does this mean that you are buying a diamond that everyone else passed up?

Not necessarily. Why don't you post the specs (include crown and pavillion angles if you can), and some of the experts and amature experts can provide their opinions.

Don't take my word for it but I believe I've read from PS that the cert date doesn't mean much since a 30 year old stone can have a new cert just by resubmitting the stone, adding an inscription, or even paying a small fee to have a newer dated cert.

GIA says no culet, but Sarin says .08 mm (or 1%) not sure which it is

has feathers around edges, wanted to know if an 8 mos old cert is something to worry about

Thanks

No, I wouldn't be worried about it. I would worry though if the inclusions are not eye-clean. Looks like you've picked a very white stone. You can drop the color to F and still be "colorless" and get a diamond nearer to the the 1.7 carat mark such as this one.

Scores well on the cut adviser. Has great potential to be a very good performer.

As to the age of the Cert,......... That doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. The thing that raises flags to me is the "feathers near the edges" comment. I would strongly suggest a professional evaluation by an independent appraiser to rule out issues of structural integrity.

Excellent advice. Sometimes inclusions placed around the girdle can be dangerous. Be sure to check with the vendor the depth, brightness, exact position and visibility of the inclusions. A plot has only 2 dimensions, so it cannot tell the whole story. For example, inclusions breaking the surface on the edge/girdle can be extremely dangerous during the setting process, and should be handled with exceptional attention, and eventually, worn with care.
