, for a three stone ring, if you were getting sides in the .33ct range, would you hunt down certed and upgradable stones, or would you be happy with BGD signature mellee (or WF ACA, just for completeness for future readers)?

if you have the time, why not? :p

Defintely, for a ring. Without certificate or any cut dimensions (such as Sarin report) and/or IS/ASET, there is no guarantee what the cut is. Of course, if I can see the stones in person, I can do without any cert, Sarin, IS/ASET. All I need to do is to compare the stones with my ACA''s and use my own IS/ASET scopes.

We are talking about BGD signature melee, they don''t come with sarins but they are cut to the same tight specs as ACAs.

Thanks for the clarification.
If it BGD cut melees, then I say yes - do without any cert.
If, on the other hand, the sidestones are bigger, say 0.7-ct or higher, then I would get cert or at least request Sarin report from Brian (even for extra resoanble cost).

Yes, definitely with larger stones I would want a cert for sure. I am just a little ambivalent with smaller stones. But perhaps the ability to upgrade is worth the time and expense of the certed stones?

For for 0.33-ct, I would not bother paying extra for the upgrade option. If I want bigger ACA''s, I''ll purchase new ones. I shall keep the 0.33-ct stones, because I can always find new ways to use them.

Why not? After all, they are ACA''s - guaranteed to be top cut.

ACA or BDG diamonds are the same to me. Same conclusion.

With BGD signature melee that is going to act as the sidestones for your larger centre stone...probably not. If anything, I would just reset those same stones down the road (hello diamond studs!). The upgrading and such would not be a big deal for me.

I was reading this and thinking...for many 0.33ct IS their centre stone (after all, isn''t that about the non-PS average?). In those cases I would recommend a cert...so I had to really think about it in particular to sidestones!

Nah, not if it''s BGD signature melee. Even if you upgrade the center stone down the road, generally speaking

, you could always plop a colored stone in the setting. A 3-stone ring is such a great thing to have. Generally speaking.

What are you plotting on Dreamer?! Spill it!

For anything over .2 ct I'd get stones with reports for all the same reasons I'd only get a larger stone with a GIA/AGS report.
You are more sure of what you are getting.

Also, with all the specs you can match the two diamonds more closely.

but these are just a little bit cheaper than his AGS melees.

so i''ll go for the ones with AGS report just in case you wanna upgrade in the future.

I personally wouldn''t bother, if I trusted the vendor and was happy to accept his grading. That said, if you are going to want to upgrade them, then maybe it is important. That would be the decider for me - if I needed the cert for the upgrade and an upgrade was on the cards, I''d get the certed stones. Otherwise, I wouldn''t.

I''d pay the extra for upgradable stones unless I knew that if I didn''t like them, I''d wear the studs they would then become often.

I smell plotting in the air...

This was purely out of general curiosity. Nothing more!

Thanks for all the input peeps!
