When I was in high school, a bunch of us went to Boston to see "Grease." Rosie O''Donnell was in the cast and we ran into her outside the theater. She was super nice and signed our Playbills, and she talked to us for half an hour.

In college, Stephen King went to a lot of sporting events and used to see him there all the time.

I saw Matthew Broderick (sp?) in the airport.

I saw Elizabeth Taylor at Sephora in Hollywood.

I was backstage at a Phish concert and saw them walking around.

I''ve met several Nascar drivers.

I used to see Joan Benoit Samuelson (Olympic Gold Medalist in the marathon) out running frequently.

Former President George Bush Sr and golfer Phil Mickleson crashed my cousins wedding. They saw the wedding party outside so they stopped in.

Oooh good sighting! I LOVE Tim Gunn!

I''ve had a few good sightings...I was in the airport once on a layover in Cincinnati and a girl was basically chasing this guy through the airport yelling "NICK! NICK!" I thought he was her boyfriend and they were fighting...turns out it was Nick Lachey and he ended up being on my flight to LA. He was by himself and seemed nice enough even though a girl was chasing him.

I was at a restaurant in LA and my friend went to the restroom and ran smack into Jennifer Aniston who was coming out of the restroom! She was apparently really nice but I didn''t get to see her because she was in a private room! I saw Dr. Drew at LAX, too...he was by himself and just looked like a normal businessman.

I saw Dita Von Teese at another restaurant in LA-she''s gorgeous! I also saw David Duchovny at the same restaurant. And the girl from Mighty Ducks and Wet Hot American Summer. (She''s going to be on a new TV show that I just saw previews for!) And I saw Jeremy Piven at another restaurant...he seemed like a d-bag but was pretty cute in person.

Who else...I saw Alanis Morisette and Ryan Reynolds in Soho...and I saw Minnie Driver once in Soho, too. She was super tall!

Christina Aguilera is from the same suburb of Pittsburgh as I am. I never met her, but I knew people who went to school with her and they said she wasn''t particularly popular because she was very rude. Also that she looked like she needed a sandwich

Then a guy I went to school with dated her little sister ... me thinks he was trying to get an edge so he could break into the professional music scene

People have done this to my friend''s dad many many times yelling "Chuck! Chuck!" because he is a dead ringer for Chuck Norris. Lol. Sometimes he plays along and lets them take pictures with him.

I had many but sadly can''t mention the cool ones thanks to confidentiality agreements, but this one isn''t protected although not overly cool. I used to know and be text message buddies with Gavin DeGraw. Also I went to college with Meryl Streep''s daughter and she was a theater major and I worked as a house manager so when she came to see her daughter perform I had to escort her (Meryl) around including to the bathroom, it was really uncomfortable and I kept apologizing, but she truly would have gotten lost as the theater building is a maze.

Hahaha! I went to college in Pittsburgh and also met people who went to HS with Christina. They said the same.

This actually reminded me of my Katie Holmes sighting in Pittsburgh. I was shopping in a vintage store and there was another girl also shopping who looked SO familiar! I just couldn't place her - I thought maybe I had gone to high school with her or perhaps she was in one of my classes. It wasn't until later that day that I realized it was freaking Katie Holmes! I can be so dense sometimes.

That same week my ex was leaving a night class and saw that Michael Douglas was filming a scene on campus, so he stuck around for a while. Between takes Michael would talk and make jokes with the bystanders. Ex-Bf said he seemed like a really nice guy. Both Katie and Michael were in town filming Wonder Boys.

That''s pretty cool! Michael Douglas always seemed like a nice guy. I am also dense and often pass celebrities and don''t notice at all - DH always points it out to me later and I feel so dumb that I looked right past them.

The same kid who went out with Christina''s little sis also had his house filmed for Mothman Prophesies (even though it was only in the very beinning of the movie where the couple is thinking of buying it). I guess the filming lasted a few weeks and he got to hang out with Richard Gere. Said he was a really nice guy and much bigger in person than you would guess.

You know, I really don''t like that guy. He performed on my campus and wouldn''t leave my friend alone! She told him she had a boyfriend, and he kept harassing her, saying, "Come ON! I''m Gavin DeGraw!" Yeah, my campus may have been mostly women, but that doesn''t mean guys get a free pass with any girl they want.

I see John Malkovich at the farmers'' market all summer, he lives a few streets away from us. He is a deeply strange and interesting fellow who likes organic veggies.

Was once in line behind Matt Damon to go to the bathroom at a party, he was pretty famous, but this was about 10yrs ago; he offered to let me go ahead of him. I declined and then wondered if he thought it was weird that I was OK peeing after him? I just didn''t know what to say to those eyes.

Accidentally hit Pierce Brosnan with my backpack at the JFK library. His eyes were the most intense blue ever, but he is a little fellow! I was mortified to have backed over him.

The worst was that John McEnroe saw me changing clothes, but that wasn''t my fault at all.

I clearly only encounter famous people when doing something really awkward.

Ok, my neighbor is an actor. Not major, just does some bit parts, commercials, etc. Last year he filmed 3 movies (in Philly) and he was nice enough to invite DD and me a few times. The first movie is called "Happy Tears" and we met Demi Moore, Parker Posey, Rip Torn. The last movie he was in was filmed last year as well and I think it is called "Law Abiding Citizen" and we got to meet Jamie Fox and Gerard Butler. He is up for a part in the tv show "Mercy" and he thinks it may turn into a regular role if he gets it. DD hopes he does because she wants to meet Michele Trachtenberg.

Luckily he wasn''t my type. I just did it to piss off this one girl I worked with as she was hitting on him. He is actually losing all his hair, not that it matters.

I find that a lot of male celebs get that ''but I am so and so'' when they are on campus. Zach Braff comes to mind from a run in he had with one of my sorority sisters.

About two months ago, I was having brunch with a friend in Hollywood and in the middle of our meal, Drew Barrymore and Justin Long were seated at the table next to us. She looks very natural and beautiful IRL.

I was in the elevator with Debra Messing back in ''02. She was very polite and said Good Morning, and I stood there with a

look on my face. She was talking on the phone with her husband, I know because she called his name, and the call got dropped. She was very smiley and seem like a nice person!

Elrohwen, you keep reminding me of other Pittsburgh stories. I was bummed that I didn''t see any celebrities during the filming of Mothman Prophecies though. Would''ve loved to have seen Richard Gere or Debra Messing.

A kid who lived down the street from me was one of the evil kids with hockey sticks in Dogma. I used to talk with this kid in passing all the time - he''d often invite me to house parties when his mom wasn''t home and I''d always decline (I mean, he was in HS and he was also kinda creepy lookin''). I never realized he was in Dogma until one of his little brothers walked up and said, "You know my brother was in Dogma, right?"

He''s been in several movies since Dogma and went to NYU acting school: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0352558/

That's so funny because I thought you were going to say Jared Pfenningworth! He was also a hockey stick kid in Dogma and was in tons of local theater in Pittsburgh as a teen. One of my friends was an actor and was always competing with him for parts.

I actually remember my acting friend reading his lines to try out for "Almost Famous". He had another of our friends read the girl's lines to him and I remember it was the scene where Kate Hudson was sitting on the toilet and the kid walks in. Lol. Very weird scene to read in your 10th grade english class
3.gif
He obviously didn't get the part, so I forgot all about the movie - I didn't even know what it was called, but when I saw "Almost Famous" a few years later I recognized the scene immediately! I'm still hoping he gets famous one day

Everything happens in the elevator!

My friend was at a wedding in the Boston area and stayed at a hotel nearby. He was waiting for the elevator to the lobby and when the door opened up Tom Brady was in the elevator. He got to ride down to the lobby with him but was too much of a wimp to do anything other than nod and say hello (SUCH a guy thing!). Giselle was not with him...

Oh! I forgot another one: I rang up Steffi Graf once at the boutique I used to work for. She had a HUGE pear cut diamond ring and a Versace wallet and handbag with her name embossed on them both. That's how I knew who she was! She was a little rude-maybe she was annoyed that I didn't have any idea who she was!
3.gif

I also helped Carrie Brownstein, the singer of Sleater-Kinney, pick out jeans. I didn't know who she was until it came out in our conversation that she was in a band, and when I asked what band she told me. I blurted out "I know you all! My boyfriend (now husband) loves you guys!" I never got into them but I knew they were good.
3.gif

ETA I totally forgot-Jason Mraz came in the store and bought a ton of stuff, too. I worked there for a few days on my Christmas break from my current job and he came in. He was super nice!

Fun topic, very cool you saw Tim Gunn I love him!

Some of my favorite sightings:

I rode the elevator with Kate Spade and her husband in college that was one of my first celeb sightings and I was so excited, I was about to tell her I liked the bag she was carrying but that seemed really lame seeing as she made it!

Betsey Johnson had her showroom in the same building I was interning in college so I''ve seen her and I love how kooky she always looks.

One afternoon I think around Hell''s Kitchen I was with a few coworkers grabbing Starbucks between appointments and "Mr. Big" Chris Noth walked by on his cell phone and in a suit just like Mr. Big so one of the girls I was with started screaming it''s "Mr. Big, it''s Mr. Big!" and he just looked at us. I just about died laughing at her, way to be subtle.

DH has gotten his car washed at the same place Irv Gotti does so he''s run into him, he not surprisingly has some pretty nice cars.

This thread has made me notice that all my celeb sightings seem to happen while I''m working.

This would totally happen to me. I don''t know what any singers look like. I''m kind of out of it on that stuff.

My mom sold my parents' house in Fort Lauderdale to Jaco Pastorius. She has a pretty good story about him and Tracy.

Also: David Spade is teeny tiny. Elevator in Vegas. I felt huge.

Oooo, I love Chris Noth!

A friend of mine did this same thing with Justin Long in NYC. We were walking around at 1am (trying unsuccessfully to get a cab) and my very drunk friend yells out "Hey, that''s the Mac guy!!!" I''m sure Justin Long heard him because he immediately booked it to the other side of the street. Lol. Good job, drunk friend

Fun thread! I love the petrified cat/Steve Tyler comparison

We''ve had a couple of celebrities in our antique mall over the years. Most recent was one of the guys off Drew Carey''s Who''s Line is it Anyway?... I just looked it up- Colin Mochrie. My husband showed him a bunch of Gouda pottery and he made some verrrry off the wall jokes and my husband was totally baffled- he had no idea the guy was actually a famous comedian, he just thought he was an oddball! He''s been through a few times since but not when I was there.

Also Judge Reinhold- the guy who played the main character in Fast Times as Ridgemont High. He was super nice even though one of our employees totally stalked him while he was in the building. I seriously had to swap her off the floor he was on she kept bugging him
20.gif
He had this amazingly gorgeous girl with him- probably 20 or 30 years younger- who was wearing a dress that looked like a translucent slip- and she wasn''t wearing a dang thing under it, as was, ahem, quite obvious. She was snotty, but he was nice.

DH & I once sat next to Selma Blair and Jared Leto on Capitol Hill in Seattle, eating burritos at Taco del Mar. She was crazy, crazy, crazy skinny and he had a mohawk for whatever they were filming in Seattle. (If I remember right it was a movie featuring the Kurt Cobain memorial in a scene... no memory of what the movie was though!) He was nearly as pretty as she was, lol. She did eat a huge freaking burrito though, so I guess she''s one of those who are naturally super skinny. We didn''t actually recognize either of them as celebrities but vaguely recognized them and were like... do we know them? Are they friends-of-friends? Are we supposed to remember them and say hi? Eeeek! Luckily we shut up and ate our burritos in peace.

Years back, I saw John Corbett from Northern Exposure. He was part owner of a bar in Seattle (not sure if he still is) and my friend and I went in and sat there and stared at him the entire time. We were so silly. (I think this was right after we turned 21). He is VERY TALL!

Also, I saw Danny Devito out on one of the islands here in the NW while he was filming a movie. Conversely, he is very short.
