I have a feeling my choice is going to come down to going with a G/SI2 or H/SI1
Leaning toward CBI after seeing that video by @cflutist but WF is still in the running.

I'm not ready to purchase quite yet but I found these two to compare. They are the same size and within $1000 of each other.

I'm wondering what most people would choose given that CBI is always eye-clean and their cut is within very tight tolerances. @Drizzle said she couldn't tell a difference between G and H. But others comment that G has an icy-white look that maybe H doesnt have?

My question is really theoretical but I thought these two below give a good example of the choice I will likely find myself making in a few months. Thanks for your opinions.

If both are "eye clean" I'd pick the G.

Agree with @Dancing Fire

The G has lots of smaller crystals while the H has a larger grade setting Crystal right under the table. I would check both for eye cleanness.

As far as color it will be difficult for most people to tell face up. Pavilion side up there will be a slight difference in tint depending on your vision acuity and color sensitivity.
There was another thread where the OP said that she could not tell the difference between two WF stones, but I saw it immediately.

Here is a color hue test. I scored 100% while my hubby missed about 30 of them.

I'd pick the cheaper one

I'm a clarity freak and like very definitely 'mind clean' so, for me, I struggle with SI clarity in general and would prefer a VS/VVS stone, but as above, ask Wink for his assessment - he can also provide a skype chat / video to aide your assessment :)

The Crystal in the table of the H may or may not be visible in daily wear. Likewise, the smaller crystals in the G might be completely invisible at even close distance. I hope you are able to make a choice as both will have excellent performance! :)

@OoohShiny
There is a E-vs1 and F-vs1 in the 2.5ct+ range available.
Time for an upgrade :mrgreen2:
LOL

I think upgrading the good lady's rock from a 0.67 to a 2.5+ would be quite a jump...

Besides, I want a 7mm D-G VS+ Octavia first ;-) lol

My personal cut off is VS2, and I recommend SI1 or higher for an engagement ring for others. I feel like if you're particular enough to want and pay for a top cut quality stone, why go low in clarity?

Good point @diamondseeker2006
There are two VS1s available E or F, 2.5+ carats.

Here is some fire for you, taken on stage tonight

I’d prob go with SI1 over SI2, but dang, this is tough. They’re the same exact size too!

.

I guess that the SI2 is more likely 'eye clean'.

No offense intended to the SI - its inclusion is just a dot sans magnification. I expect to see & not care.

Hi, I am willing to go low on clarity because I want to spend a set amount and get the largest, sparkliest, whitest diamond without paying for something I/she can't see. I'm not sure if I would prefer G over H, though, so the purpose of the thread was to gain insight into what others who have made a similar choice decided.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to beat the system, and to me from what I have read and learned from my GF the priorities seem to be

Cut - don't compromise
Color - as low as possible and still look white in platinum on a finger with 6 prongs
Clarity - as low as possible without inclusions visible to the naked ey
Carat - as big as possible while balancing the others at acceptable minimums

I went to Diamonds Direct and looked at SI stones with the GF. Neither one of us could see the inclusions, and neither of us cared that they were there. We decided we were cool with SI as long as we couldn't see dark specs or something. I even brought my dental loupes to see if I could see anything at 2.5x and could not.

So if Wink says you can't see it with eyeballs, then I'm fine with impurities. I just don't have a mental hangup about it. And if it gets me a color grade or some more carat weight, I'm ok with that. I have not considered SI2 until I thought maybe it would let me squeeze out a G, and with CBI I could be getting something where SI2 didn't matter

You've checked out your options, worked out what matters, and have identified some of the best-cut options out there :)

I think you're good to go - we will look forward to pics! :D

Every diamond needs a home, so if you love SI2s, more power to you! There's no beating the system, though, unless you find a good second hand deal. You get what you pay for. Some sacrifice size to have high color or clarity. It's a personal choice.

If I had a lot of $$$ my choice would be a F VS1 , but since I don't have a lot of $$$ I would be very happy sporting a G/H VS2/SI1 stone. "top ideal H&A stone" is a must.

I had the exact same dilemma. In the end I went for 2.16 G VS2. As I had already purchased another CBI diamond in the past, it was more of a 'mind' thing rather than performance related as they are all amazing and consistent performers. What I love most about CBI is the 100% upgrade policy. Buy now what your financially comfortable with and you always have that option to call to Wink for an upgrade. Whatever you decide you wont be disappointed.

Says he, rocking a Patek ;)

Yeah, like DF, if I could just choose my ideal modern cut stone without regard to price, it would be F VS1 like @cflutist recently got. I have gone to G VS1 in ring stones to balance price with the size I wanted, and my superideal studs are H color and still very bright and white on my ears.

But I 100% agree that good upgrade policies are invaluable in case someone regrets the specs later. You can always change size, color, or clarity as long as the new stone costs $1 more!:appl:

WF, CBI and GOG have the same upgrade policy.
