Lol - for all the times we wished a hole would open in the floor so we could fall into it from embarrassment, playing possum could have been the better choice!

HI:

The picture of the possum "dead" standing up on the wheel is priceless. And the human director is pretty charming as well.

cheers--Sharon

Too funny not to share. When I was a wildlife rehabber I ran into this all the time doing possum rescues. It's a lot cuter when it's a baby faking death. Carson drools when he's dead. The ones I rescued would have stinky green stuff oozing out of their eyes and backend to make sure predators knew not only were they dead, but they were rotten and unpalatable too.

Yes, I was amazed when some workmates said they were planning to shoot possums on a holiday in NZ. Here in Australia they are native and protected. I'd never thought that killing them would be legal and approved.

They can still be a nuisance in the suburbs. Here in Brisbane, I have to keep branches at least a possum's jump away from my roof. Otherwise, they will thump onto my roof at night and keep me awake.

Everything in its place, I guess. It seems that our famous gum trees (eucalyptus) have become a pest in many parts of the world.

im really really sorry,:(2

i would hate anybody to be shooting kiwis

but possoms are a huge ecological problem
(our pohutakawa is banned in some places too and the cabbage tree)

the possom fur is really thick here, they were introduced to provide a fur market a long time ago
they collectivly eat through a vast amount of bush every night
there was a green member of parliment who used to have a possom skin seat cover in the house
they have no preditors here and they love our forrests and gardens and farmland
if we could send them all home we could

I felt very guilty patting one at Australia zoo when i myself have shot some but the zoo keeper lady, she understood
they do have a very good life out in our bush

“You enjoy being dead in here, see you tomorrow.”
