Hi all...

I understand that carat weight causes the price of a stone to increase geometrically, that is, all other things being equal, a 1.0 carat stone could be three times the price of a 0.5 carat stone, not double.

Is there any general rule or formula for how carat weight affects the price per carat? (I was a math major so I am always searching for some kind of equation. :read:

As I say in the tutorial.
Double the weight = 4 times the price (almost) but it goes up in steps at each "magic" weight.

What exactly are the magic weights? I am looking for something around 1 ct, slightly less.

I have heard that .9-.99 are basically the same price per carat. A jeweler told me the othet day that .97 was a magic weight. Is this true?
What are the magic weights in the 0.8-1.1 range?

Thanks!
