carat weight 1.8 or 2 carat on size 4.25 finger..

hi all

I am debating.. over 1.8 or 2 carat RB cut..

the price difference is close to $3500.. and of course 2 carat is more expensive..
part of me want to get the 2 carat for my girl cause she deserves it..
but I am doubting myself if its worth it to stretch another 3500 dollars cause it will be over way over my budget.

and she has 4.25 - 4.5 finger..

help me guys so i can buy the stone next week!!

A 1.8 stone will look large on her 4.25 finger and of course the 2 ct. even larger. Are you considering the 2 ct. because it is something she would love or because you think it might be the bomb? Based on size alone (of the stone and her finger) it is probably hard to justify the extra cost but if it's something you really want her to have and can swing it then go for it!

My finger is a 5.5 and the last stone I had was a 2.02. I upgraded the last time to a 2.22 and it has cured the diamond itch for a long time! There is a difference, albeit not a large one, in size. If I had traced the outline of the 2.02 stone with a pencil - knowing that when you trace the outline it's actually larger than the stone diameter - the 2.22 fit into that outline perfectly. That was basically the size difference but I could see it on my hand. Your two choices should correspond accordingly.

Has she expressed wanting a stone close to 2 carats? If so she may always secretly want the larger stone (which was my case). I have a size 4.25 finger and originally had a 1.81 round that I upgraded to a 2.5 round that looks big but is perfect in my opinion! Pics posted below. I'm know if you ask GOG, they will do a size comparison video of the 2 carat you have on hold and a stone close to a 1.8 side by side. That might help you see if there is a big enough difference to pay the extra $3k. Obviously do your homework and make sure you know which diamond will perform better, which is the better value, return and upgrade policies on both before you make a decision.

OP, if you can swing it, I'd go for the 2 ct! To me, there is a noticeable size difference, and if you decide to upgrade later on, hitting the 2 ct mark will get you more money...

I vote for the larger stone, however, how do you plan on setting it? You can probably get the 1.8 and halo the stone, this way you can make the stone look a little larger AND have enough funds to cover the cost of a nice setting

I agree with TruLuv... actually, if you plan on doing a halo on the 1.8, it will look a lot LARGER than a 2 ct solitaire!

You are paying a large premium for hitting the 2ct mark. The diameter difference is not "that" great IMO. If she likes halos the 1.8 would make a stunning and very large hand presence. That gets my vote.

Another idea is get a nice 60/60 stone, a 1.8 ct will face up the same size as a 2 ct. but without the price jump. You might even get an H color for about $16k, which might be a nice compromise in case you had a solitaire in mind. No need for halo!

Just a thought, or two. If what you want is help finding the best 2 ct. for the same price as that first WF stone you posted, it is possible but might take some work on your end. But, we can help with that.

anyways.. about the setting.. i decided on vatche u113 solitaire setting....

so.. no halo for 1.8 carat.. If i was gonna go with halo then 1.8 is the answer.. however, since it is solitaire..

I wear a 4.25 and I think the 1.8 is a lovely size, my ering 30 years ago was .33 lol- the 2 carat will look a little larger, but if it's going to be a financial hardship for you to exceed your budget I think you should stick with the 1.8. $3500 is a substantial sum of money, especially for a young couple just starting out. It's your call, you obviously know your finances better than we do!

This one is $18,091... ask if it's eye clean. (remember, it's blown up like crazy in the photos) It's not the absolute ideal performance, but it could still be really nice at HCA 2.5 -- it may turn out to be a nice compromise if you want a 2 ct, IMO...

I would go with the 2 carat. I saw the good old gold diamond in person a couple of weeks ago and it is beautiful. 100% eye clean and perfect!

I wear a size 4.25 and vote 2 carat.
Yes there is a premium, but if you amortize it over 20 - 30 years, it won't seem like much.
Plus you achieve that 2 carat psychological barrier.
