Because heart pattern is visible when you look at the diamond from the bottom (pavilion).

Boston. this is off topic but, I am curious. Have you looked at any boston retailers Ie:Shreves or anyone in the Jewlers building. I am in the begining of my Search for an engagement Ring and just came back from speaking with a few people and wanted to get someone elses experiences to compare?

I haven't looked at any of the Boston retailers. I have chosen to look online for my diamond, but I did look at Long's for the setting. I wanted a Verragio setting, and they were the closest retailers.
I've heard good things about EB Horn and Shreve Crump and Low...although these have been around for awhile. I would assume that they probably wouldn't take a long time to help you find your diamond (this is an assumption). I found that some people at Long's weren't helpful and I really didn't like them, but others were really helpful and let me look at items that weren't in there displays. I guess it depends on who you work with, and whom you trust; it made me feel at ease. I also preferred to talk to online retailers over the phone or write them emails.

Probably didn't help, but wanted to write back.

One other note...you might want to drive up to New Hampshire to save on taxes.
