Hello Everyone,

First off, this is a great site...kudos!
I am from NY and have been conducting a grueling search for a diamond in NYC's diamond district. Those of you who have been there before know how painful it can be. However I am convinced that due to competion I will get the best deal there.
The trouble that I am having is that I am looking for a box radiant diamond and all of the diamonds I have seen have depths between 69 and 74%. All of my research has told me that this is too deep. The dealers of course tell me that this is normal for a box radiant. After seeing so many diamonds with that depth. I am starting to wonder, Is that normal? What depth should a box radiant be at? I am looking at 1ct diamonds and a few 1.5's.
Please Help!
I think I found the diamond that I want based on appearance and price, but the table is a 77. The GIA report is as follows
Weight - 1.00
Depth - 63.8%
Table - 77%
Girdle - Thin to slightly thick
Culet - None
Finish/Polish - Good
G/VS2

The price of the diamond, setting, taxes is $5900. How does it sound?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey Darnel8! Good luck with finding a good box radiant!!!!

RUN from this one! After saying that, do a search on this site for Radiants. So far these have been the two radiant threads just in the few days, maybe some of this will help:\

Thread 1

Thread 2

Look at these sites:

AGA Cut Charts for Radiants or the AGA RADIANT CHART, which comes from the site itself.

Also the man who invented the Radiant, Henry Grossbard has a Brand Radiant (in NYC sold by Niletti jewelers, and Philmar Jewelers who are the only LISTED authorized jewelers, but Albert's Fine Jewelery and D'Aura have had some as well. So BEWARE of people shilling "original cuts" when they are generics.

I did my radiant search in NYC as well and honestly, I needed to find it in person, as you have to SEE the stone to love it, but trust me, DON'T compromise and get a heavy stone. You are paying for the carat weight, and something with a table SO much larger than the depth will be a major leaker. I have seen just as many bad stones out there, if not more, and anything with a depth of 72 and under, with a table of at least 2-5 percent less will allow for a nice high crown and be the best at retuning light to your eye, sparkling so much more than the beasts that are out there being sold...

Again, it's my opinion, but it's from a whole lot of reasearch and viewing I have noticed these are the best dimensions and ranges. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the reply,
What do you think of this one:
GIA
Weight - 1.33
Depth - 73.7
Table - 67
Crown Height - 11%
Pavillion Depth - 60%
Girdle - Thin
Polish/Sym - Very Good
Culet - None
Fluorescence - None
G/SI1

Total Price is around $4,000

Could be pretty good. not nuts about the depth, I would prefer a less deep one, and the girdle at thin makes me nervous due to chipping (as it's tricky under medium), but so far, I like it better than the first one!!!

Good luck and if you keep searching you could find an absolutely stunning stone, if you haven't already! Go see it and tell us how you like it. Also, make sure that the pattern is more liked cracked glass than a princess stone with cut corners, because that's what makes a radiant!

Good luck!!!

Why not go see Jonathan at GOG?

Good call NiceIce!

First I would suggest calling Jonathan at GOG, as they can get stones in to show you, if they don't have them in. They are extremely helpful, and are one of the very few who provide a major battery of tests for stones to ensure that they meet their and YOUR standards before you buy!

Also, you can try USACerted who has a NY presence through Olympic Diamonds, as well as SuperbCert and EngagementRingsDirect also has a NYC office...

Internet prices, and the ability to deal with humans face to face. Can't get better than that!

There are two sets of guideline for these rads: AGA's and those for the Grossbard patented radiant at RCDC ( radiantcut.com). And you can always use that little Ideal Scope toy to find out where a certsin stone ranks in terms of brilliance...

The most expensive G-VS2, 1 carat radiat posted on Pricescope is $4700
