I''m curious if Canadians have had any issue with insuring rings purchased in the USA? What did you have to provide for proof of value?

If it doesn''t make it on a house rider what would an independent policy be for a 10,000.00 ring?
(A range or approximation would be great, I don''t need an exact figure)

Thanks folks!

Hi there -
We bought a ring in Boston on a holiday and I had the ring appraised after we got home and the appraised value was used for insurance purposes not what we paid for it (the ring appriased for 4x what was paid as it was on serious sale). We do have a rider on our house insurance for all of our expensive jewellry and it seems like the rider is about $100 for 10K worth of stuff. I think you can get a rider on tenant insurance if you don''t have a house.

Thanks scorpioanne!

That is great feedback.

Did they ask you to provide receipts or anything with the jewellery?

Ditto scorpioanne.

We provided the appriasal and aslp put on file the AGS documents to make sure that like kind and quality would match the cert and not just the appriasal. If it is a branded cut, then you will want to replace it with a branded cut, so be sure that you can do this. I made sure the appraisal noted the inscription on the diamond.

Thanks DD!

I''ll make sure to include all that information.
