Can you please let me know what you think about the following 2 diamonds I found on jamesallen.com?

Shape: Round
Carat weight: 0.70
Cut: Ideal
Color: G
Clarity: SI2
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 60.8%
Table: 57.0%
Crown Angle : 34.0
Pavilion Angle : 40.8
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Thin to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.71*5.74*3.48
EyeClean : YES (from the picture on the website it''s very much eye clean, has a small cloud, but
that''s pretty much it)

Shape: Round
Carat weight: 0.75
Cut: Ideal
Color: J
Clarity: VVS2
Certificate: AGS
Depth: 62.3%
Table: 53.4%
Crown Angle : 34.2
Pavilion Angle : 41.0
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Girdle: Thin to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.82*5.85*3.63
EyeClean : YES (it''s very clean, with no blemishes)

Both are priced identical (about $1960 to be precise)

I am planning to put them in a sidestone setting, with 6 smaller G/VS diamonds (3 on each side) weighing appx. 0.40 ctw

All the good work you are doing, helping out newbies like myself on this forum is really really very much appreciated.

thanks again! Looking forward to your expert feedback.

Welcome Inditopgun!

The first one looks great, fantastic specs as it falls right within both the AGS Ideal and GIA Excellent parameters!! That is one top-notch cut. I love it even more for being an eyeclean SI2!

In addition, my personal preference would be for higher color over clarity than for higher clarity over color.

Do you know what your color tolerance or preference is? Are you color-sensitive?

I ask b/c there tends to be a noticeable difference between stones color graded as G or J. If you are color sensitive, you may wish to stick to the D-F & G range. If not, the J may be perfectly suited to your liking, is a terrific cut as well and even just a smidge bigger.

Good luck with your choice!

Yes, as this is for a ring, I am more sensitive for the color (had it been for a ear-ring, I wouldn''t have mind a J) I agree wit you about color being more important than clarity? What do you gys think about the price? I have about $300-400 still left in my budget. Is it worth getting a rad bit bigger stone probably 0.75 by paying a little extra? appreciate your inputs....

thanks!

Welcome!

These diamonds both look good, I prefer the numbers of the first one though. As to eyecleanliness, the pics give an idea, but it is best to ask the guys as JA to actually look at the diamond for you, but hopefully it might be a great SI2. Regarding the setting with G sidestones, the G diamond may be the best one to choose, alternatively if JA has the setting too, you might want to check with them regarding the J colour - as to how it would look with those diamonds flanking it. Some experts say to keep within 2 colour grades with centre and side stones, but this may be subject to preference and opinion, and the individual diamonds in question.

You could see what is out there to spend the extra on your budget, but you may not notice much if any difference in size with a .70 and .75, it depends on your preference to hit that weight milestone, and the price may jump a bit too.

Ditto.

As to whether you should try for a bigger stone with the extra money, I don''t know how much more size/spread that would get you, but it couldn''t hurt to look. It might not be a bad idea to have a backup in case the SI2 isn''t eyeclean also.

what about the price? Does $1960 sound like a fair/good deal for a 0.7 ct G/SI2 ideal cut? Does it matter the first stone is certified/rated by GIA and NOT AGS?

Please let me know ASAP as I have to place the order in the next 2 hours in order for it to arrive by valentine''s day.

many thanks!!

JA has some of the best prices around. And there is nothing wrong with a GIA grading.

Hope I made the deadline!

Hi inditopgun!

I''m glad you were able to decide on which one to go with ...
I definitely think that the $1,960 sounds like a fair/good deal for that diamond.
GIA has a good reputation as a stringent lab so this shouldn''t really be a concern unless your preference was, for some other reason, to only go with AGS.

Were you able to confirm if it was eye clean? Just wanted to make sure so as to avoid any disappointment if you receive it and it is not as you thought it would be ...

I hope it is everything you are looking for ... Awaiting your update.

Thanks a ton to all of you who helped so much! I decided to pull the trigger on the 0.7 G/SI2 diamond after reading your posts. The best thing about JA was they had a picture of the diamond on the website with 40X magnification. So I could check out and make sure it was eye-clean. I also asked the sales associate (at least a dozen times ;-) that the diamond is eye-clean. What attracted me to this diamond is that it scored very well (a 1.0) on the pricescope cut adviser report and was a G color eye-clean.

thanks to all of you I was able to make the deadline so should be able to receive it by Valentine''s day morning. I will post my feedback once I receive it and present it to my wife!!

thanks again!
W

PS : By the way I went with a little pricey setting on 18K white gold with 6 side-stones. Hope wife loves it :-)

Glad you picked the first one-it looks fab!!

I''m too late to offer an opinion but I think the one you picked will be awesome.
