OooHi all,

I have recently randomly walked into jeweler while window shopping and the he had the following gold cluster ring on display. I loved the shape and the roughness of the ring....but the 'cut' of the diamonds confused me. Anyone know what these would be called? Im not sure if this is something i would consider seriously, but if you were able to give me some of your thoughts that would be great!

When i inquired after some old cut diamonds he showed me some loose stones he had available. I was drawn to the below white gold cluster that he said used to be a link in a bracelet...i wanted to explore putting it into an antique filigree ring and asked him to try to get it out of the setting. But could you let me know what type of cut this is? I was thinking maybe a rose cut cushion? Thoughts? opinions? All greatly appreciated!!

ETA the photos lol

Definitely looks like a rose cut diamond/stone.

The second halo (the one made with a white metal) has what looks like a rose cut diamond. It looks to me like it’s visibly included, so be sure to get a GIA lab report before purchasing so you don’t over-pay. It might be foil backed (just turn it over to see if that’s the case). If it’s currently foil backed, you would want to see it without the backing before you purchase to make sure you like the light return. From what I can see, I like it, it’s a pretty cut. The halo looks like it is made of crudely cut rose cuts, many are highly included. They should be priced accordingly. I think the overall design of the halo and the center stone is pretty, on this ring.

The first ring, with the gold metal, contains stones that in my opinion should be avoided. They are badly cut and opaque. The gold ring looks like it was made in India and Is possibly not antique. (The white metal ring also looks like a reproduction and is possibly not antique, likely made in India as well.)

But I do like that center rose cut diamond and the overall look of the second white gold piece; you should see the diamond loose and get it graded before you seriously consider it.

Thank you so much for all the info @LightBright! Your thoughts about the gold ring mirror mine identically. For the :eek2: Price I was not impressed. It looked great from the window which is why I went into the store.

I will know nothing about the cushion stone until he's able to take the stone out. The back is currently solid white gold, so even if its not foil back, it is completely covered in the back. I was able to see a pretty large bubble under the loupe which worried me. I only plan on taking the rose cut stone from that piece if it is the right price, so I'm not worried about the side stones. But we shall see, the jeweler is taking the stone out of the setting this weekend and I will know more when I see the stone loose on Tuesday.

I am interested but cautious right now...thank you for letting me know what to look for!!!
