Hi, I''m thinking of buying a diamond on line with very good to ideal cut that is in the 1.30 to 1.45 ct range that has at least 7.2mm diameter with G-H color and S1-S2 eye clean clarity. My price range is 6000 to 7000. It doesn''t have to be H&A as long as it''s ideal cut and sparkles like mad. Thanks in advance for your help! Also, if I decided on the stone from the online vendor, can I send my own ring mounting to them to have it set with the diamond?

Hi tweeanna,

It's going to be difficult to find what you're looking for, with all the specs you have, in that rather hard to find size. Here's an example of what I could find for you. (not much out there) If you went lower in color it would help, but not sure you want to do that.

As for using your own mounting, some jewelers will, you just need to ask first.

Hi Ellen!

Thanks so much for the quick response! I guess I''m open to any suggestions as long as the diameter is between 7.2mm and 7.5 and within the price range. I tried to query but so many came up that I don''t know which one is the best one out there. I was hoping for knowledgable PS''ers out there that can point me directly to the right stones with the right cut and right dept/table/crown angles and such.

I''d be glad to help you, the only thing is, have you actually seen I and J colored stones? It doesn''t bother a lot of people, but does some. All depends on how eagle eye/color perseptive you are. I''ll find some for you, but in the meantime, if you haven''t, maybe try finding a jeweler who sells well cut stones and see if the lower colors would bother you. Be sure and look at them away from the counter lights (near a window or outside), as those lights mask many things.

I''ll see what I can find now.

Here is one but the inclusion looks too big for my tastes . . . if you dropped the carat weight down to 1.25 ct, you will find a lot more within your price range or increase your color grade to include I or J or increase your budget another $1000 or $1500 . . . but to get everything you are looking for will likely be more difficult.

THis one might fit the bill: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=996417 (the price would be lower if you wire the money) I have an I color stone, and there are many others on this board also, they face up very white and it will allow you to get what you need in your budget

Thanks so much for all your suggestions! I will check those out. In the mean time a quick question...when it says HCA 1.5 EX, 2.3 VG etc...what does that mean? What is the best number or range of number to look for?

I could be wrong, but i dont think when the numbers are crunched it's possible to have a 1.30 -1.40 with 7.2 mm and it's ideal. the reason being it would need to be a little lower of a depth i think.. like a 60 and that's not ideal/excellent (i don't think) by GIA. 7.2 honestly sounds like a 1 1/2 carater with a depth of 62 to allow for excellent cut.

john quixote could probably tell you quicly with the software he has of cut.

You want to look for an HCA that is UNDER 2 for the best bling, I believe !

I believe you are correct to some extent, DBM . . . it can't be ideal AND be 1.3 to 1.35 . . . but closer to 1.4 I think it is possible.
I am sure someone more in the "know" will come by and clarify.

hikerchick is correct, you want to look for under 2, preferably between 1 and 2.

That diameter chart bothers me more than the stone on james allen. The chart lists a 1.33 for 7.2 mm but i''m pretty sure that is definitely wrong, certainly not ideal cut. That chart is not accurate i don''t think. Experts?? your opinions?
