Long before I discovered this site we bought an engagement ring from a local jewellery store. After a few months, the stone being a low grade I1 I would like to upgrade the stone to something that has more fire and less cloudy. The stone is set in a half bezel with pave side stones. Would I be better to simply get another ring with a better stone or try to replace the stone? Would it damage the pave sidestones? my_e-ring_004_0.jpg

Based on the photo, you'll probably better off starting from scratch.
Here's why
1) damage to the ring, center or pave stones is entirely possible- this type of setting will require more work to be done to remove the center as compared to a prong set. It can be done- but there's risk
2) if you have to find a stone to fit that setting exactly, you'll be forced to buy with your hands tied behind your back ( so to speak)
You'll have to restrict your search to new stones based on the dimensions- which is very limiting for you.
Maybe try to sell the original ring on one of the site where consumers sell items ( loupetroop, eBay etc...)

No problem at all.
There are thousands of princess cuts - go larger and higher or stay the same width - cost of resetting will not change as a jeweler will simply saw the top off and solder 2 new sides / settings - they already taper, so go higher for bigger. forget about smaller (it = divorce if your the guy, or insanity if your the lady)
