Can this ring be resized?

Hi, all. Would love to get your advice on this.

I''m considering a ring purchase - 10th anniversary, fine time to update her engagement ring! One design I fell in love with is the Hearts on Fire micro bezel. One concern I have with this ring is the ability to resize. The ring I''m looking at is already made (though new), thus would need to be resized from about a 6.5 to a 4.5 - quite a bit. Given the stones in the band, do you think this is even possible? Would love your advice.

Thanks in advance!

Robert

In a word, no. I doubt any reputable jeweler would want to touch that because of the risk of side stones falling out either during the resizing or sometime later. You''ll have to order than one in her size.

Very risky. Even if it is done, the ring won''t be a circle anymore - it will be more like an oval.

Thanks everyone! My suspicions confirmed.

I thought the whole point in leaving a "resizing area" on the non-eternities was SO you could resize them?? I cannot tell you how many people I''ve seen here "leave a bit for resizing" and making eternities into 3/4 coverage... is there something special about this setting?

Yes, 3/4 eternities leave room for sizing. I have had them sized up or down a half to a full size.

I think the difficulty here is that it is a change in two full sizes. I don''t think it is impossible to be done - I have seen it - but it does put the stones at a bit more risk of becoming loose and the sizing area may be noticeable (oval bump) as they cannot round out most of the shank after.

oh... I missed the part about two sizes!!!!!

Possibly not, but I've had channel set rings go down 2 sizes and obviously plain bands further (one went down 5 full sizes). Is this at a jewelry store? I would ask their opinion. We can only guess here. This setting doesn't look that complex and similar looking to some I've had resized 2 sizes without trouble. Usually when I go more than 2 sizes I run into trouble. I have had some settings that were way more intricate and they said no more than 1 size or less.

I know I am going against the grain here from what most said, but I would ask a pro. I have kid sized hands and do have issues finding some stock fashion pieces that fit, but I always ask if I love something. I will also add I've never had my rings go oval from sizing 2 or more sizes. I do take mine to a reputable jewler who knows how to size well and amazing with repairs. That to me, makes all the difference in the world.

Are you buying the ring on the secondary market or on sale? If not then they should just be able to order the ring for you in your size. If I was buying a new pave piece I would not want a ring that had been resized that much.
