i just received my ring and the head/basket where the diamond sits is a little different than the sample i picked was. It's hard to describe, but the ring is higher up than i wanted and where the prongs meet at the bottom of the stone is closer together than i wanted - it's not as squatty down if that makes sense. I like rings that sit pretty close to your hand.
The band is a 3 sided micro pave. THe jeweler said it's not a problem to shorten the prongs a bit, but if i want them to replace it with a new head/basket, can that be done without redoing the whole ring?

without seeing it it''s difficult to say.

couple of things come to mind
1.) Is your diamond larger than the one you saw in the store? If so maybe your diamond requires the height. but I would agree it still should look proportional......sometimes the jewelers have ranges of diamonds that fit into a particular setting - potentially te one you saw - the diamond was on the upper fringe the setting would allow and your diamond is on
2.) Have you talked witht he jeweler you bought it from - I am sure they want you to be happy and will do what it takes to get it right
3. my guess is something can be done......

The sample in the store did not have a stone in it but it was pretty close to the size i would need for my setting because my loose stone was able to drop in it and the head was only a dropp too small. Also, my diamond is 3 carats, but the depth is not that great - only 59.4%, so the culet is not close to the bottom. I spoke to him yesterday when i picked up the ring and mentioned my concerns and he said it wouldn''t be a problem to lower the prongs and suggested i wear it for a couple of days to see how i like it. However, even if the prongs are lower, the actual head of the ring where the prongs meet at the bottom would still be too close together for me and not what i had seen on the sample. i am trying to post pictures, but can''t. i will keep trying.

thanks

anyone else??

Is it a prong head (the prongs radiating from a central point of origin on the bottom), or is it a basket head (kind of like a scaffolding, with horizontal metal bars around it)? I have had prong heads lowered and swapped out, baskets seem to be a bit trickier.

it''s possible. Let it go for a couple more days and see if it grows on you.

its probably higher because of the stone size of yours and the stone size of the sample being different.

it is a basket head
