Can someone please identify this piece?

It looks like a silver elongated coin encased in glass. It reads "Padre Kolbe" "Pray for us Italy" What is it?

Maximilian Kolbe, who was a Polish priest, volunteered to die in place of a Polish prisoner with a wife and children in Auschwitz. He was beatified in 1971 and canonized 1981.

Probably a religious saint's medal.
