I feel so dumb when it comes to this stuff. Maybe the great people on this forum could help me out. I have attached a pic of what I'm looking for. I have a budget of $10k but would love to stay around $7k. I'm desperate for someone to help me through this process.

Bumping this up for you to see if you get more replies! That's a lovely ring. Why not look at this ring: https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/14k-white-gold-cushion-outline-pave-engagement-ring-item-49493 - at the bottom of the listing it shows recently purchased examples so you can see how it looks with different carat weights. Or this one http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/ritani-french-set-cushion-halo-diamond-band-engagement-ring-4693.htm At the lower end of your budget you should be able to get at least a 0.9ct stone, depending on specs.

Is this for you or for someone else? If it's for someone else, did that image come from your SO's Pinterest? We want to make sure this is what the intended wants! That being said, the ring looks to have a round cut in a cushion halo and snowdrop has provided you with a couple of those options.

If you like the JA setting, I suggest you go with platinum. Here are a couple of diamond options:
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.94-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-2359322 - comes in below budget and will be negligible size difference btw this and 1 carat
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.00-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-2351312 - gets you a full carat
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.21-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2285478 - largest

Thank you Snowdrop and AC117!!!! I wish I could take y'all to lunch! Do you mind if I ask why you suggest platinum over white gold? Anything else I need to know before the big purchase? Can you suggest another larger diamond. That last one has been sold.

And yes, this is for my girlfriend from Pinterest.

Thank you so so much!!?

Hey coltscolts, I'm another newbie to this forum replying to you.
You wanted another larger diamond? How about this one?
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.26-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2357376
Or this one

Paired with a halo setting like the one linked to above but in platinum, it should fall smack in the middle of your intended budget.

I'm thinking the reason why platinum was suggested was because of the ability to dispense with things like rhodium plating (which maybe needed with white gold settings) and that it is hypoallergenic. Plus with a white metal setting (whether white gold or platinum), the diamond chould face up potentially a grade whiter (so an I coloured stone might end up looking more like a H coloured one) as the setting itself will contribute to how the stone looks face up.

Not a well cut stone.
Or this one

This one is ok. Get an idealscope or aset.

The I/VS2 doesn't show up that great on HCA. Based on the 360 vid on the listing it looks good as it spins around. An ASET image would probably validate your thoughts on it tyty333.

The I/SI1 looks alright to me specs wise, but for that small inclusion sitting on the edge of the table. Which might drop it out of eye clean territory.

Guess that it depends on what coltscolts is looking for more of: carat size or something with better cut, color and/or clarity.

Platinum is better and safer for pave bc gold over time loses metal with scratching, wear, and polishing which could compromise prongs/durability.

I wouldn't go with the I VS2 listed above because the pavilion angle is over 41.

Here are some more options but I would ask JA if they have idealscopes on any of them and how eye clean they are. They will provide 3 IS images for free. You could get $100 off referral code if you have 2 email addresses and you could also ask them for a PS discount.

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.28-carat-i-color-vvs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2173187 - very nice but getting to top end of your budget

I would probably do something like this...

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3772299.htm
http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/ritani-french-set-cushion-halo-diamond-band-engagement-ring-4693.htm

Most of the bigger well cut stones I looked at on JA had twinning wisp or clouds that could be bothersome at SI1.

So here is a nice one but it's a little more $ but it's AGS000
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.22-carat-i-color-vvs1-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-1778744

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.22-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2279951

This one is under $6k and facing up larger
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.19-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2388370

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.17-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2309655 pretty

Another AGS 000
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.16-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-2359305

I see ac117 just posted some also...these should keep you busy for a while

Here is another setting...if you look at the made up ones at the bottom...some look good but others look like the stone is too big
for the setting...so dont know what to think there.

Think I'm going to go with the Whiteflash diamond and platinum setting. They are in Houston and my girlfriend lives in Dallas. Makes me feel a little bit better knowing that we can make the drive to the showroom, if needed.

Thank you so much! If you have any other advice before I pull the trigger tomorrow, please let me know!
