My best friend is going to propose to his gf of 6yrs and needs some help on finding a princess cut diamond. His budget is around 12k, he wants it to be anywhere from D-F and VVS1 or VVS2.



He has his mind 100% set on D-F and VVS1 or VVS2. For cut it has to be Very good or Signature.

Polish and symmetry also has to be excellent.

Girdle - Medium or Medium to slightly thick

Here are two AGS 000 Crafted by Infinity princess cuts I found on the High Performance Diamonds site:
D VS1
G VVS2

Crafted by Infinity works with several vendors across the U.S. and Europe. Perhaps there is a vendor near you (check Dealers page on the main website)
CBI and if there is a vendor near you, you could view Infinity princess cuts in person.

You could also e-mail Wink or one of the other CBI vendors and ask if there are any new stones on their way from the cutter that might meet your friend's specs.

ETA: Sorry -- I just noticed that your friend has color specs of D-F and clarity specs of VVS1 - VVS2, so the ones I linked fall outside of that. But I would encourage your friend to contact one of the Infinity dealers and ask about stones that are "in the pipeline" that may meet his requirements.

While many of your friends criteria are good, some are questionable.

Stones with "very good" cut are generally nothing special. Even stones with "Excellent" or "ideal" cuts can be mediocre, since cut grade is rather leniently applied.
More important than the cut grade are the angles and percentages.

I would shortlist stones with the following:

GIA Excellent cut grade or AGS 0, or AGS 1.
Excellent symmetry.
Very good or Excellent polish.
Girdle: medium, or thin-med, or med-sl.thick. Thin-sl.thick is too much variation and should be avoided.

Table: 55-58%
Depth no more than 61.8%
Crown angle: 34.0-35.0 degrees.
Pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0 degrees.
A crown angle of 34 is better with a pavilion of 41, while a crown angle of 35 is better with a pavilion of 40.6.
Star: 50-55%
Lower half: 75-80%

The picture next to my username shows an ideal cut - 34.5' crown, 40.8' pavilion 56% table, 61.5 depth, med-sl.thick girdle, 55% star, 75% lower half.

I would also suggest that you could go down to VS1 and be unable to see the inclusions with the naked eye.
Most - but not all - VS2 are also eye clean. The few VS2 that aren't 100% eye clean can only usually have inclusions detected after prolonged and very close inspection (6-8 inches).

I would suggest that D and F colour are very difficult to tell apart, so that F would be much better value for money. I can't tell the difference between D and F (and I am able to put both side-by-side to compare directly).

I would go down to G SI1 if I was close to a special carat milestone. I'd prefer F VS2 for a very white and eye clean stone.

FB, the OP is looking for a princess, the parameters you listed are applicable only for rounds.
