I did a quick search to see if I could find any tips but couldn't come up with anything, so sorry if this has already been discussed.

Anyhoo, I'm new to the world of diamond buying, and jumped in to OEC's and was wondering if anyone has any tips on haggling. What issues could I bring up, in order to persuade someone to lower the price?

I know some people just aren't going to budge, but I learned early on in life that it doesn't hurt to ask, and sometimes you will be surprised! It's just a tough spot to haggle on something that you aren't completely versed on.

Number one, it helps if the stone is graded so you have a fair idea of what it is worth. My main advice is to never tell your budget in advance. If you find a stone you like and are ready to make an offer, I'd say it is a little higher than my budget and would they consider a lower offer. Then depending on their answer, you can offer a lower amount. In my experience, there is usually a counter offer, so go in a little lower knowing that they probably will come back with another amount. Just keep it going until they won't go any lower! With cars it usually helps to say you really aren't sure about the price and want to go home and think about it. They know if you leave, they might not see you again, so sometimes they will try to make the deal. I think that would work with almost anything.

Oh thank you! Good advice!
