Just curious,

Can an unscrupulous vendor manixxxxte Sarin report (change/tweak the numbers)? I ask because we often advise people who want a GIA certed stone to get a Sarin report. Granted NOT all Sarin machines are calibrated the same and one would therefore expect that there be some variability in reported numbers from machine to machine. However, can the #'s be "changed" before the printer spits out the report?

Leonid is there some sort of filter? If there is, I think it goofed!

Also,

How consistent is the AGS sarin data?

xxxx (p u l a must be a baaaad word in some other languge.

ha ha guess we have a filter now....that is 'p u t a' and I believe means 'w h o r e'

One diamond can be measured several times on the same Sarin and get slight differences in the report. The technology being used isn't repeatable every time.

The Sarin at AGS has the same problems. These are fairly minute problems though.

Someone could run several reports on a diamond near ideal proportions and maybe use the one report that said the proportions are ideal. If concerned buy a diamond that isn't near either end of the proportion grading scale.

Oh my GOD.......PLEASE, PLEASE tell me spam filter are not worry about foreign languages now! It's just too much.

Leonid, on a side note, I'd feel a lot more impressed with the "new" look if it could find a way to stop inserting the " " every ten words when quoting someone. Isn't there a way to fix this?

One can manixxxxte the Sarin readout by calibrating it falsely. This could be done by accident or with intent. Besides the machine error already spoken about here already, on could do a whole lot of changing of numbers if one was so inclined or stupid about the process.

Hmmmmm. Manixxxxte comes out with xxxxx's How about fornicate or coxxxxte? I am so xxxxed curious.

Pretty neat, it actually converts certain word or lettering combinations.
to xxxx's....

An unscrupulous vendor could doctor just about any report, unfortunately. So I hope people stick to the ones with scruples!

Have there been cases of Sarin reports that have intentionally been "tampered" with?

I have not seen a Sarin report that someone admitted to tinkering with. The guilty have little motivation to stand up until they are caught. The ease with which the calibration of these devices can be "adjusted" by inventive users would make any expert believe that it is possible to make alterations to results with relative ease.

If there is money in it, someone is likely doing it. Legal or illegal. I don't like to be negative, but experience has shown me the darker side of the business world as well as the nicer parts.

Practically every piece of gemological equipment which we've ever seen can be manipulated if somebody is so inclined... The Sarin... The OGI... The Brilliance Scope... The Gems Fantasy Scope... Even a diamond being viewed through a GIA Gem Scope can be manipulated by subtle changes in the lighting or angle of the diamond to make an inclusion more or less noticeable... This is why it is so important for people to have the characteristics of their diamond verified by an independent GIA Graduate Gemologist (or equivelent) to ensure that the information which they based their purchasing decision upon was in fact accurate. Simple enough.
