Can a setting that is made of platinum be made thicker (change in diameter) or is it necessary to change the setting alltogether. I know that rings can be resized in terms of circumference but can the thickness of the ring be increased without the quality and smoothness being affected? I guess the diamond will have to be removed for this process, right?
Thanks

Bump to get you back up there Nick. I'm not sure what you're asking, and even if I did, I'm not a goldsmith. Sorry, can't help.

If you're looking for a thicker shank, you'd have to have it re-shanked. The existing shank can't be made "thicker". Or the crown of the ring if you've got something other than a Tiffany style solitaire.

It will be a bit pricey to have this done (re-shanking), considering it's platinum.
