Hi all,

I''ve across this stone, and I really like it. I wanted to get your opinion on it, though.

It''s a tanga rhodolite garnet.

Thanks in advance!!

I like the color and the cut, but I wonder if it would be dark IRL??

It''s almost an orange red on my screen, very pretty. There is a good chance it ill be dark. But maybe thats not an issue for you.

All I can say is that I like it a lot - that shade of red reminds me of corals. BTW, I don''t think it will be too dark, but you never know. Looks very lively as well.

Thanks. On both of my monitors, it''s not dark.

I really like the color, it looks like a pure red on my computer.

The only hesitation I have is that it''s not a "standard" size, so I might have a hard time setting it for a reasonable price.

Yeah, it''s a 10-day inspection with no restocking fees.

What are the dimensions? Even if it isn''t exactly calibrated, a good bench jeweller should be able to set it, within reason.

It is 7.8 x 6.8 x 5 mm deep

I like the red one better, but it is a matter of taste.

They''re both lovely. I don''t think the first one will be too dark but I definitely would stay away from a bezel setting!

impossible for me to choose between pictures as i know they just never are the same as a stone in hand. one seems to have redder tones than the other....but that could be a trick of the lightening.

I''ve got the second one on hold. Here are links to various pics of both:

More red

More pink

Clicking on the smaller images up top makes them enlarge.

The first one has too much brown in it to me. I like the second one better - more pink.

Based on the additional pictures:
Red 1 looks richer but might have brown undertones.
Pink 2 is bright but might have a hint of gray

Of the two, even though I love reds, I would choose the pink.

Any chance you can ask the vendor for a side by side photo?

I like the darker one. Hard to tell on a computer monitor about color, but that''s my favorite of the two, and I like the cut.

I would go with the red. On my screen I see no brown overtones but slight yellow tones which makes the stone glowing "warm". It is also pretty lively and the saturation is very nice. The pink one seems "cold" and I am not really fond of the grey tones in the pink stone.

I almost bought the umbalite garnet that you posted....but maybe it was you that purchased it.

I favor pinky-purple garnets more than I do red garnets but it is a matter of taste. They are both pretty!

I have not decided. I did put the pink one on hold and asked them a few questions, though. I haven''t heard back yet.

That''s good. Ask as much as you feel you need and don''t feel bad to ask for more pictures if you aren''t sure.

Okay, I will be the minority here. Do you absolutely LOVE one of the them or both? I think they both may appear on the darker side in many lighting conditions. If you have to choose between the two then I''ll say go with the second one. Otherwise, why not check with Barry at ACS. I''ve seen many pretty rhodolite from him.
