Can I get a jump start on buying a string of pearls for my wife for Christmas?

Hi. Yesterday my wife of 13 months mentioned that she's never had a string of pearls. She'll be 65 in March.

Right this minute I'm looking at www.pearlparadise.com/products/85-90-mm-16-inch-white-hanadama-akoya-pearl-necklace

Is 8.5 - 9.0 an average size? Too big? Too small? All personal taste? She's 5'4" and 104 pounds fwiw and just retired Her engagement ring came from WF and is white platinum Vatche U-113 with an ACA 1.5 carat F VVS2.

Great choice, however 16in is not that easy to wear IMHO.

Thank you.

Somehow I've double posted this. Oh well.

18" is a better length. 8.5-9.0 is a substantial but still "normal" pearl size that will be a great choice for her. And for the Hanadama necklace, you can't go wrong. A great choice for a gift.

Thank you. Now I'm comparing the White Hanadama and the Natural White Hanadama.

I'm also still thinking about pearl sizes. When we were shopping for an engagement ring she selected the 1.5 carat stone and turned down the similar 1.8 and 2.0 stones. She thought they were too big on her 5.5 finger. :)

I love shopping from the sofa.

I believe in the sentiment that older I get, the bigger the pearls I can wear.

As your wife is quite petite, 8-9mm will be a good size for her IMHO.

You can always get her some bigger South Sea or Tahitian at a later date.

Your wife is almost the same height and weight as me. I think 8.5 to 9mm pearls will be a great size for her. I wear larger pearls (personal taste) but they can look overwhelming on my frame.

My mother is 65, 5'0" and 100 lbs and prefers 8.5mm-9mm pearls in 18" strands for everyday wear (larger for special occasions). Although she is small, this combination looks perfectly elegant on her. I'll add that I am 39, but about the same size and also like this combination on myself (though usually prefer shorter strands).

oh John
you lovelly husband
she is going to love them

+1

Now she's trying to decide if she prefers the white hanadama to the natural white. Back and forth, back and forth. Heck, I'm going back and forth. Shopping is so much fun.

Meanwhile PP has sold the last strand of natural white 18" 8-8.5. They do have 18" in a 7.5-8 and a 9-9.5.

If she picks the white hanadama there are more choices. Her birthday is the end of March, but the sale is now and the general plan was to get her WF ACA diamond studs for her birthday. Those are going to take some time, mostly picking the setting style. And watching the WF videos. :)

Meanwhile, it's 7:15 a.m. and she's still sleeping. Thanks for the encouragement and we'll keep working on it.

This may not be settled by Christmas, but I'll keep everyone updated as we go.

(I don't want to pressure her to make a choice. Not to be too depressing this early in the day, but her older brother has been in and out of the hospital and rehab/nursing and she's moving him to a residential nursing home Monday. She's POA and the only sibling in the state. She moved him here from Florida 18 months ago after he survived you-have-a-week-to-live brain tumor surgery. He lived mostly independently for 7 or 8 months and then moved to assisted living before the new problems started November 1st - her first day of retirement. Fwiw, I've been retired since 2012.)

One beer helped, two will be better. I think she's going to like this. :cool2:

...9.0-9.5 mm 18 Inch Natural White Hanadama Akoya Pearl Necklace

Of course the purchase took far too long because SunTrust declined my card the first time until I called it in and convinced them the purchase wasn't fraud. What the heck, I don't really need a new boat anyway.

Wife's happiness > new boat. :lol-2:

You've made a wonderful choice and I've no doubt that she will love them.

Thank you one and all. Isn't it fun encouraging people to spend money?

I've just been notified they've printed the mailing label. :appl: (I paid for 2-day.)

And I just saw my Pearl Points balance. :mrgreen2: Then I had to read the rules. Nice program.

It arrived today, in plenty of time for Christmas. And no, I haven’t opened it yet. Maybe after my wife gets home. Maybe.

Good thing I was looking out of the front window when the mail was delivered. It came earlier than the notifications predicted.

The mailbox is to the right of the tree.

Our regular mail carrier is great. She wouldn’t have left a Priority package hanging on the mailbox flag.
But she’s an exception to Richmond’s hit or miss postal system.

For any online business the shipping is always the nightmare. That's scary.

I’m glad the bag wasn’t stolen off the mailbox.
Imagine how beautiful they would be if I knew how to properly photograph them. Or even rotate the first one. The white envelope is an AARP junk mailer.

Phew! When browsing the pics, I saw the one where the pearls are showing potato shapes and thought no way are these Hanadamas.
Glad to see the pic was squashed, and the pearls are beautifully round and lustrous.
I am certain your dear wife will love the necklace, who wouldn't except for those who do not like pearls?!

DK :))
