It does not have to be perfect, but I don''t want to put an obviously yellow diamond littered with inclusions on her finger. At the same time, I''m on a med student budget. I see diamonds listed on the internet, but no idea whether they''re worth a damn, who is reputable, etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

I believe you can if you find an SI1 J - I like J''s. I''m not going to even try picking one for you because I''m not a round girl but someone else here can hook you up.

Lorelei''s cheat sheet - as always use the guide as a guideline only, and don''t be afraid to be wowed by a stone outside these parametres:

depth - 60 - 62% - although my personal preference is to allow up to 62.4%
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above

note - with crown and pavilion angles at the shallower ends ( CA 34- PA 40.6) and steeper ( CA 35- PA 41) check to make sure these angles complement in that particular diamond - eyeballs, Idealscope, trusted vendor input - check as appropriate!

Use the HCA when you find one you like, under 2 is "good" but 0.5 is not better than 1.5, and again, don''t be afraid of a stone that scores 2.2 or 2.7..

you''ve got excellent options and advice here...those BGD would be gorgeous! I have a K BGD pendant (it''s much smaller though, .412, but it looks very white). Also there are several threads here with J and K colored e-rings. GORGEOUS if ideal cut.
