After looking at so many diamonds (including buying online and returning a few), I''m currently considering this one I''m holding onto:

EGL-USA cert US 89205107D

"Ideal plus" cut, Ex/Ex, no fluro
0.96ct - G - SI2 - thin/med facet
6.34 x 6.3 x 3.9mm

Depth 61.8%
Table 57%
Crown 15.4%
Pavl. 42.4%

HCA 0.9 (FIC)

It''ll be mounted on a white gold ring, solitaire style. I think the G color is fine since I can''t tell the "off-white"-ness as a solitaire. The SI2 is fine since even though I can see inclusions with a loupe, I cannot spot them through the table so nobody else will ever know. The just-under-1ct is large enough for me to show off and small enough for her to still work (she''s in the medical field, so she works with her hands alot and it can''t be too big). The cut, and subsequent HCA 0.9, really lives up to its rating and my coworkers agree it''s dazzling.

I know that all that matters really is if I am (and my girlfriend is) happy with it, but since this is my first (and hopefully only) diamond engagement ring, I just want to make sure there isn''t any aspect I''m missing.

I defer to you experts. Thank you.

From the numbers can be good. Check for obstruction issue.

Hi Micks

Can you get an Idealscope image for it?

Sorry, no Idealscope image.

As for obstruction, I tried using a red reflector as suggested by Karl_K here about 2/3rds down the page. He says a well cut diamond should end the obstruction zone around 15 inches. Mine ends around 18-19". Is that too much?

It depends on you, if any visible darkness bothers YOU then its too much. How does it look to you when you look at the diamond closely under normal viewing conditions?

Depends on you. How often do you view the stone below 18-19 inches and if the darkness bothers you when viewing in those conditions?
