for $2,500, the seller's description:

This is an ESTATE RING that was made in the ART DECO style from PLATINUM. The ring is set with 1 FULL CUT DIAMOND of G color, VVS clarity that weighs approx. .55 ct., along with 2 FULL CUT DIAMONDS on the sides that weigh approx. .03 ctw. The center diamond is surrounded by 20 NATURAL EMERALDS that are square cuts weighing approx. .15 ctw. The head of the ring measures 7.6 mm in diameter and it sits 4.6 mm high off the finger. The ring size is a 6 1/4 and the total weight is 2.3 grams. Similar rings, pendants and earrings maybe available, along with similar style set with rubies or sapphires. GREAT QUALITY & SPARKLE…BEAUTIFUL COLOR…FINE DETAIL!

I know one must be skeptical of ebay vendors' diamond statistics. My questions are:

Based on the diamond cut, I think this is a reproduction?

Do antique rings actually exist in this style and if so what are they called/where should I look for them?

Thank you!

It looks like there's an emerald missing from the halo, especially in the third photo. Does the listing mention this anywhere?

My guess is, is that it is a reproduction. I can't tell from the photos, but it does appear to be a more modern cut diamond in the center. The price is on the high side for what looks to be a modern stone in a reproduction setting that is of nice, but not great, quality.

Yes, there are actual vintage rings out there in that style; they are called "target rings" by antiques dealers/collectors, not halos as we refer to them here. Here's a link that will tell you more about the history and authenticity of target rings:

The seller mentions that the ring was made in the Art Deco STYLE. He doesn't even claim himself that it is original.

I think its a very pretty ring. If you really like it, maybe write to the seller and ask him wether he would consider selling it for less?

Thank you both. E B I thought there might be a stone missing too but I think it's just glare. I'd be sure to ask before purchasing.

Lula thanks for the article. I'm so glad I know they're called "target rings" now!

There is one for sale with a gap, as the article mentioned, but I don't like the look of that one as much. Still, it's good to know that's more authentic.

When I think of what beautiful studs (or other item) I could buy with $2500 it puts my impulse to buy this ring in check. I love antique jewelry too, so I'd prefer a real antique. I'll continue my search.

I realize this post is a few years old but I was curious if anyone remembered who sold the ring or if it's still available. I am looking for an emerald target ring for my engagement ring and have only found very few in my price range of 5k. Any suggestions would be helpful! THANKS!

My boyfriend and I have been strongly considering one we found in New York but honestly I think it's a little too expensive for what it is at $5,100. That being said, however, I have yet to find another ring with a YG bezel around the outside or one with such a fine, delicate gallery. Many of the repros I've found look pretty cruddy in the gallery when compared to this. Here's the stats on it and I welcome your opinion (please ignore the BFs hairy knuckles, Ha!):

Old mine European cut diamond that weighs approximately 0.80 carats but looks like 1ct. The color of the diamond is G-H and the clarity is SI2. Approximately 0.90ct of French cut Emeralds.

Pretty.

Let me suggest starting your own thread? I have a few other ideas but more people would see this if you started a fresh one.
