A friend visited Israel and bought diamond studs from her friend who is in the diamond business. (I know...the whole friend of a friend thing in itself sounds bad). Anyway, she bought uncertified stones because apparently, GIA can''t be found in Israel. They''re allegedly (I say allegedly because they''re uncertified so who knows what they really are) about 2.50 ct. each, one is F in color, the other G and they''re SI2 in clarity. She paid $24,000. She asked my opinion & thus we had a brief discussion, in which I told her you don''t know what you''re really getting with uncerted diamonds and I suggested getting them unmounted & sending them to GIA or appraised by an independent appraiser. She doesn''t plan on doing either and is happy with the earrings. Out of curiosity, I was just wondering if it''s true that in Israel you can only find diamonds graded by labs other than GIA?

The other reason for my post is to thank the wonderful PS''ers for sharing their knowledge & education. As my friend told me her story, I immediately thought of PS and how glad I am to have found this site and receive help from the wonderful people here. Thank you for teaching me so much about diamonds!

well, if they were EGL graded it''s very possible. But are they really F and G? Doubt it.
