New ring in the works, I've poured through the threads, but can't decide what metal to choose. The DK 14kpd is SO white, I'm a weirdo, but I like some gray! Can anyone show me DKs unplated 18k/pd? Compared to 14kpd? Compared to 950Pt/ru??

DK 14k WG/palladium alloy, unplated

In my ring build, it was only a few hundred bucks to go platinum. I only chose the WG/palladium alloy because my girl liked the shiny factor, and that is actually what DK recommended for my particular ring build.

As I recall, DK likes to use 950Pt/50Ru, when building platinum but has various platinum alloys & combos available if you prefer something different.

I'd think the platinum will give you a more grey look because of the patina that will naturally develop over time.

I also have a DK ring coming... I didn’t even think about metal?? I have a diamond that is J color (do u think the white 14k gold will be too white in contrast???) Maybe I should do plantinum???

@lagirlie I actually already have a DK ring in 14k palladium white gold with a K colored stone. It looks great. I think the whiter metal actually brings up the stone color (appears whiter). Since you are right there in LA , I'm sure they'd be able to show you the metal options in person!
@sledge oh, yes, I know that ring! Wink, wink! I showed you my DK 14k wgpd! It's pretty white, right? Hope your girl was happy! For this next project, very art deco, I am seeking a darker, more "aged" look. I Can't find many examples of his 18k wgpd, which I think is darker, slightly hued. I am considering the 950 pt for that patina. There really is little price difference.

Curious why you went with unplated if she likes shiny?

DKs 14kPD - uses palladium alloy, not nickel. It's very white, doesn't need plating, ever, and can be high polished. I think it was an excellent choice considering what she wanted.

Not sure that 18k white would be more "grey" as there is more gold (yellow) in the mix than 14k. But yah, if your right there, go look and see side by side. I love deco styles in platinum.

My gut is saying to just stick with the platinum as I originally planned. DK threw me off, he is recommending the 14kPD for being more scratch resistant than PT.
