Hi Everyone, I am new to the forums, as well as new to the whole diamond world. I know there are many people here who are pretty much experts so thought this was the nest place to ask, I have browsed quite a bit and now know what I want.

Our budget is $5000 - $6000 max - obviously would love to stay around 5 if possible. Looking for a round diamond, always thought we would go for a princess but after seeing the sparkle a round has I think we have changed our mind!

Would like minimum of 1 carat which is eye clean and a good color, what do you think is the best we could get for the $$?

Really dosen''t matter which site as long as they are trustworthy of course!

I would really appreciate any advice from you all! Thank you so much in advance!!

Hi Kristy,

Welcome! Is your budget for the whole ring (diamond AND setting) or just the diamond? Do you know (roughly) what color and clarity you''re looking for? If you haven''t checked this out already, read the tutorials here and on Good Old Gold''s website.

http://diamonds.pricescope.com/

http://www.goodoldgold.com/4Cs/

Once you figure out what else you''re looking for, you can go here and check out prices: https://www.pricescope.com/sift.aspx (or you can do the basic search on PS''s homepage).

Hi zoebartlett! Thanks for the welcome! and also thank you for the links I will take a look now! The budget is for the diamond alone....

I think the lowest we would go clarity wise is vs2 or vs1 and would like to stay higher then an H color - does this seem ok? The rings we tried on that were lower in color/clarity seemed to look dirty - and we would rather go with a smaller stone if that''s the case!

Thanks again for the help!

Hi!

I would look into some eyeclean SI1s as well because they can be beautiful if they are well cut and eyeclean
http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-183739.htm
I like whiteflash''s A Cut Above or Expert selection diamonds, and also www.jamesallen.com because I like to see pictures

Good luck and hopefully some of the experts here can help!

Hi Kristy,

This is what I found, using these ranges: .80-1.0 ct, F-H, and VS1-VS2. You can still get eye clean stones if you go to SI1 - just ask the vendor though to make sure. Using the HCA, a diamond should be less than 2.0.

I''m sure others with more expertise will chime in.

Hi
I just got my 1.31 ct I VS2 for around $6500.
I just posted the pictures. It is eye clean and very white... see the pictures. You may like to look for something like that?

Hmm...for some reason, what I found for you didn''t show up. Anyway, plug in the numbers and play around with different combinations and see what you like. Many PSers have gotten beautiful diamonds from Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, James Allen, and others.

Hi Kristy,

Inlove picked a nice one. I know it''s an H, but with strong blue fluorescence, if it doesn''t affect the stone negatively (does only on rare occasions), it could actually make it appear brighter.

They are also right in suggesting SI1 stones. They can definitely be eyeclean and beautiful. (I have a .58 stud that is an SI1 that I can''t even see the inclusions with a loupe)

This would also help lower the price of the stone. I don''t think you could find a well cut 1ct. G VS2 in your budget.

I found one that is close, this is a rather rare size. It will give the "look" of a carat, but you aren''t paying the price jump when it hits that mark.

Thanks everyone!

What is the florescence? Does it actually make the diamond look blue? how do I know if it''s ok with each particular stone?

This will explain it better than I could.

http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fluor.asp

And you ask the vendor to view the stone for you and they''ll let you know.

Hi Kristi,

I see 2 no compromise options:

This one...with again strong flor, so...although you can ask WF about it, their offering it is good at the outset. Not also, curiously, the IS shows it as an ACA...but it is not...probably downgraded because of the characteristic of the flor...but ask them. (eta...I see, consistent with it's realy almost being an ACA, it has a cert from AGS with the markings showing it with 0 for light performance). But...see for yourself.

More conservatively, one from JA may be nice as well....But for some reason...my browser keeps closing when I try to bring it up...it"s VS1, H maybe 1.01. the Search by Cut db will find it...see both above, under prices, and also below my signature for search strategies.

Regards,

Here''s a few more:

Here''s a beauty along the lines of what you are looking for:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=1026297

If you are willing to try out a lower clarity stone, this one could save you money and the inclusion looks totally prongable.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=864885

The inclusion on this one is tiny as well and the specs are spot on:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=988789

If you want to go a little bigger and are willing to go to an I here''s a nice one:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=1020199

Even though this stone is an SI2, it looks really clean and is a nice icey-white E with a great arrows pattern:

Wow thanks for all of those!

So does an I still look nice and clean to the naked eye? I am just worried about the color not looking so great In real life!

Kristy,

You did find the JA one I was pointing to. But the WF one you identified was not mine...that was this one, and pointed to by Inlovewjkd above, originally. It may be fine, and even eye clean, but if you want VS2, mine costs a bit more, is VS2, and links above....note also, this SI1 does not have the same quality certificate. (edidted to add....) It is from AGS, but is not a new AGS0 for light performance...and I'd seriously consider paying for that difference. Alterntatly, of course, if the flor issue is more favorable for one than another, that may be another story. But, I'm inclined to think they may just screen out loosers in this regard.

Separately, Kcoureselle found another at JA (unfortunately, all their better options do not link through the search by cut db...are they trying to be difficult?) which looks potentially very nice. So...3 if you do want VS2 or better...and more to include SI1.
