Can anyone help me read this Sarin report?

Hi everyone! I just posted for the first time on here yesterday. I have several stones that I''m looking at, a couple with Good Old Gold and one with James Allen. I would appreciate any feedback on this stone you could give me. Thanks in advance!

I know numbers don''t tell the whole story, but I am a first time diamond buyer and I''m trying to learn what all of this means

I have asked for a Idealscope of the stone but they said it will take a couple days to send because the diamond is offsite. Sorry for the novel and thanks again!

Thanks for the reply. I understand everything on the GIA cert, with the exception of if the depth and table % are good. I understand the vocabulary on the Sarin report (crown, pavilion, etc) but I have no idea if the numbers are desirable.

Can anyone give me some thoughts? I just found AGA's rules for grading princess cut stones. It looks like it would be a 1B because the crown height is a little low and the table is a little big. Am I on the right track? Is that still a good diamond?

It's impossible to give meaningful input on fancy shapes based on numbers. This table/crown is not an issue. A smaller table/higher crown will produce more fire in the balance of a diamond's visual properties (thus the stricter range of the AGA charts) but that's entirely dependent on how well the diamond returns light overall; it's a guideline, not a certainty. Rounds all follow the same template so better predictions can be made, but fancy shapes have so much variation in faceting and angles you just can't tell anything without seeing the diamond.

Reflector photos can be used to get an idea of a diamond's light performance. An ideal-scope will permit you to see overall light return. An ASET photo is useful for fancy shapes as it breaks down areas of intense and less intense light return.

Thank you for your reply. I don''t believe James Allen offers a ASET of their diamonds- just Sarin and Idealscope. Should I order it to check it out and return it under their 30-day return policy if it''s no good?

Having the IS will be useful. If you would like an ASET you could have the diamond sent directly to a qualified independent appraiser (make sure it's one who is equipped with ASET). This would also give you an added professional eye on the stone and insurance documentation. I know most PS sellers are happy to send to qualified independent appraisers for you.

A nice thing about the PS vendors is that they're committed to your satisfaction. With or without ASET (or ideal-scope or Sarin for that matter) the 30 day return period is certainly long enough for you to decide whether it's the right fit.
