I am thinking of buying an uncertified diamond from a very reliable vendor. Because it has no reports other then the basic information such as clarity, color and carat weight, I would like this diamond to be sent to an appraiser to make sure it is what it is.

The answer is yes, a professional appraisal will clear the doubts you may have.

I am very sure any appraiser can easily pick up clarity enhancement (fracture filling, laser drills). Also, if there are any doubts about more sophisticated treatments and origin of the stone (HPHT, artificial fancy color stones or artificial color origin), the appraiser will be able to warn you of this and advice for the stone to be submitted to lab testing.

It should be a quite straightforward job, with the added bonus of cut quality grading...
