Hi all :wavey:

This may seem like a silly topic to make but the keratin hair thread got me thinking; has anyone ever noticed that someone else whom has been under stress start to age?
But more importantly - once out of their stressful situation did you see them become more youthful again?

The reason I ask is that between 2010 and 2012 I used to run a business and was highly stressed, I took over just after I turned 22 and finished just before I turned 24 and during that time I had people guessing my age. I noticed that people would increase the number of their guess the longer I was there. Towards the end people thought I was around 40 years old when I was only 23.

After leaving that job the stress levels decreased immensely and all of a sudden I noticed changes; my skin started to feel more smooth, the salt and pepper hairs on my face seemed to regain colour and I was starting to be my happy self again. 5 years on and I now have people guessing much closer to my actual age.

So what do you all think? Do you think that stress is the opposite of the fountain of youth?

I agree that stress is the opposite of the fountain of youth. Look at Obama before and after, or indeed any president. They all age much more than the actual passage of years would seem to warrant. And I think the relief of stress can stop one from furrowing one's brow and scowling, thereby making one appear more youthful, but whether the internal organs rebound I have no idea!

All I can add is yes, stress can have a harmful effect on your heart.

And the first signs of stress is the havoc it does with your skin, hair and nails.

I have learned to control my stress. And I have seen a big difference. My hair is almost as thick as it was in my youth. I can grow my nails long now And my rosaeca is even going away.

I noticed that Ruby; hair began falling out, my beard began to lose it's colour and my skin was like leather. I just find it bizarre that after I got out of the situation that I had colour return to my hair and my skin began to smooth out.

I was just looking at pics of myself from that period, it's crazy how old I was looking. I had a long goatee then but I have a full beard (albeit trimmed short) now. I guess I probably look my age now whereas back then I was going to be asked for my senior citizens card if I stayed another year

Gosh I hope so. Three weeks in and I already look 10 years older.
