Calling on Gypsy. Question on EC w smaller Depth from Table

Hi; I'm always reading your recommendations and could not find anything definitive if the EC had a table larger than depth. I have read it is not preferred but have seen some beautiful stones that have this. This particular one has a 65 Table and a 62.8 Depth. It's for a 3.7 weight. What do you think? Probably hard to tell w out seeing it. I've requested an ASET. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Ps. Any other sights you recommend selling current ER aside from J by G etc? Like her very much just wanted other comparisons. Thanks so much, as always for your help.

Gypsy has become a member of the trade so she no longer has the same freedom to post.

If she does not respond this would be why.

Hi Kenny! Thank you so much. I did not realize that. Would you know the answer? Thx so much.

Thank you again Kenny for your help! I left her a message there. :wavey:

Re: Calling on Gypsy. Question on EC w smaller Depth from Ta

Way back then, I used to limit myself to having the table % be smaller than the depth % but not anymore. The more ECs I've seen, the more I realized that it isn't as simplistic as it sounds. I've seen some gorgeous ECs where the table % is larger than the depth % and some yucky ECs where the table % is less than the depth %. However, extremes generally produces poor light performers, so I still avoid those with 70% tables and 50% depths.

65% T and 62.8% D is within that safe zone but there's no way to tell its performance without seeing it in person, pictures or ASET, which you are currently waiting on. Just curious but do you have any pictures or videos of this EC?

I do. Not sure if this is that helpful.. Thank you again!! For some reason I cannot load it. I'll try again.

UGH. I took a photo on my phone but it says mismatch JPg extension png given? Never had this happen. Wrote when loading.

Not sure if I can help but it sounds like the picture is a PNG but you are trying to upload it as a JPEG?

yep well said.
I have never liked that rule because a table in the low to mid 60s with a depth in the 60s can be awesome even if the depth is smaller than the table.
Chrono is also 100% correct that it means little as to if it is well cut. The angles and placement have to be right.

Re: Calling on Gypsy. Question on EC w smaller Depth from Ta

A magnified photo is a good start, but I always would get an ASET on an emerald cut. I prefer tables under 65, and I like a nice crown height. But I look at that visually and don't go by numbers.

Re: Calling on Gypsy. Question on EC w smaller Depth from Ta

If you can get a clear photo face on and or an ASET image that would help us. If it is a modern cut Emerald I prefer a smaller table but I've seen some cracking Antique stones that have bigger tables that were stunning, so even with photos and ASETS you need to see the stone, move it around in different lighting situations to tell if it's lovely and lively.

Re: Calling on Gypsy. Question on EC w smaller Depth from Ta

Hello Emeraldcutlover,

This is Gypsy, I've made the transition to working for the trade and per the rules had to change my role on PS. I am working at High Performance Diamonds, and my role there is evolving and expanding so no longer can help on RT as a consumer advocate, though I do miss it very much. There are a lot of wonderful people still here, and they are happy to help, so I know you will get the support you need. Once I am more comfortable with my new role, I may post more, as Karl does, on RT. But I am not there yet, unfortunately. For what it is worth, Chrono's advice is well stated, and I agree with her.

Best wishes,
Layla (GYPSY)

Hi Layla! (Beautiful name BTW)! Congrats on your new position! I totally understand and am very happy for you! Do you sell diamonds? I'll look it up. If so, I'm sure you will be inidated w many customers :). Best of Luck!! XO

Re: Calling on Gypsy. Question on EC w smaller Depth from Ta

Hi Chrono! Ok. I'm going to try another way to give you a photo and will send the ASET as soon as I get it. Thank you so much. Ps. Any other recommendations for selling my current ER (spoke and do like J by G) just would like 1 or 2 other possible options. Could trade up w Perry but don't want to have to spend that if I find something I love that's less. Thank you again! :)

Re: Calling on Gypsy. Question on EC w smaller Depth from Ta

Hi! :wavey: I have had 2 ECs where the depth is smaller than the table, including my current RHR.

Depths were 61 and 64. Both tables large. Sometimes this can lead to a glassy look in ECs, but not mine. Be wary of very thin girdles with the larger tables. It's really a matter of preference with ECs.

+1

Great advice.

Also - in order to post the pictures you may need to insure they are the proper format. A simple online image converter can take nearly anything that is a png, psd, tiff, etc... can be converted into a jpg which should be easily uploadable through your image control panel under 'my pages' tab at the top.

Thank you so much! I am not selling diamonds yet, but my role will be transitioning in the coming months. I will be watching your project a lot of interest. I know the posters here will make sure you get a stone that s your socks off.

Hi Diamondseeker, Diamond-Hawk,LAWNlLama,And Chrono!!!
Thank you so much. I'm going to try and download the pics from my phone onto my computer to show you and get your thoughts. Anyone have suggestions for selling my current ER. Several offers from LT but (their budget was just much lower) like J by G but just wanted a few other options. May just upgrade via Perry.
