Hi @mrs-b! I am the proud new owner of the sparkling doo-dad. Love it! I do need to get it sized a bit though and am debating how it's attached to the chain. When you first made it, I noticed it was set as a charm style and now it is set watch style. Did you like it better watch style? Did it bother you as a charm due to the movement? I hate being undecided! Thanks for any input!

Hey @Gussie! I'm so glad the sparkly doo-dad passed to you! I love that bracelet. :))

It's got quite a lot of gold in the charm, so it has a fair bit of weight to it. Consequently, I found it bashed into things a lot when it was set as a dangly. I was perpetually afraid I'd chip the diamonds.

Experience says - leave it set as-is. General enthusiasm says - do whatever suits you best!

:wavey:

I have a plan! I have another very similar doodad that I had made. It has mixed cuts and I do love it but I like @mrs-b better since it has all round stones. I am having her charm (now mine!) made into a necklace. The doodad with mixed cuts will be a charm for the bracelet. Here is the picture and instructions I sent to David. I hope such explicit instructions aren't offensive. It was just easier to communicate with steps.

1. Remove OEC charm (1) from bracelet (3).

2. Attach OEC charm (1) to chain (2).

3. Reassemble bracelet chain (3) (size will be perfect with charm removed).

4. Replace lobster clasp (4) with dog clip (5).

5. Shave eye on mixed cut charm (6) so that it better fits dog clip (5).

I HAVE 2 DOODADS!

Ok - firstly, that's perfect. I love the idea of the doo-dad as a necklace! And one for a bracelet is AWESOME! That's what I call majorly fortuitous!!

@Gussie - can I pls ask you a favor? That chain was part of a muff chain that my best friend's father bought her mother. If you have any bits left over, could I possibly have them? I'll happily buy them from you. My best friend has a necklace made from a third of the chain, and she'd probably add any leftover bits to that. I, too, have a necklace (my heart dog's memorial necklace) which uses about another third of it, and we each had a bracelet made with the leftovers. I did ask her if she minded me selling the sparkly doo-dad, and she said she didn't (and I believe her - she's not at all sentimental, on the whole), but if there are bits that are just going to go into scrap, I'd love to buy them off you. From what you've said, I'm guessing that's *not* the case - but just on the off chance.

Anyway, this is going to be a killer combination and look so pretty! It's the sort of thing that's very wearable and, because of that, often gets more outings than other larger pieces.

Nice job!

Of course! I don't mind looking for a bracelet if you want the whole bracelet either. If it is a sentimental piece, I would love for you to have it.

No no - definitely not! I sold it knowingly and without regret. I just thought if there were random bits leftover, I'd happily buy them from you. But from what you said, I'm assuming that's not the case, and I'm fine with that, too.

I can't wait to see what the finished set looks like!

@Gussie those are kewl, I am looking forward to pics of the finished project!

I will definitely get you any bits that remain. When David gets the bracelet reassembled there may be a few pieces, depending on the exact measurements. I will let you know!

Bless you. :)) Thanks Gussie. you're a good egg!

I always thought a doo dad was a DILF. :eek2:

I got the pics from David last night and I am so excited! @mrs-b I forgot to ask if there were any bits left but I will let you know when it arrives on Wednesday. David always sends any unused pieces.

Very nice! This is going to be a beautiful, very wearable set.

Hi @mrs-b and @Gussie! Did either of you do threads on the making of the doo dads themselves? I'm looking for general information on the size of diamonds used, and its finished diameter. I have a pair of less-than-stellar round studs and a mall store multi-stone diamond band that I am considering repurposing into something that I may actually get some pleasure from wearing.

Hi @RMOO -

The original doo-dad was my 'design' - and I use the term loosely, since it was basically just a case of collecting all my leftover old cuts and shoving them into a disc of metal! It was either 10 or 15mm across - I can't recall which one - but it really is a very flexible design, which could be virtually any dimeter you choose.

As I recall, it had almost 2 ctw (1.8ctw+ perhaps?) of diamonds or varying quality - but this design is very forgiving and you really can use more or less anything of any quality.

I hope this helps!

Thank you, this does help. Did you lay them out in the order you wanted them, or did DK (I assume he made it?)

Yes, DKJ made them. And no, I didn't lay them out. If I could do it again, I'd have a few more diamonds and set them together tighter.

@mrs-b, unfortunately there were not any bits left from the bracelet conversion and it fits perfectly.

I'm really pleased for you, Gussie. And no issue whatsoever about no leftovers - it was just a thought in case there were throwaways. If there were, I just wanted to give them 'an honorable resting place'. Happier that there wasn't and that it was all used. :))
