Hi Lynn
35.gif
,

As you know, I'm considering how best to set my 3 carat stone and I've been admiring your gorgeous rings from afar for a long time now. Whilst I've still made my final decision, I am leaning towards yr e-ring setting (more) and the second split shank Leon setting (it is gorgeous too, but because I do wear my wedding band I'm not so sure).

So I am writing to ask your permission and hope you don't mind that I make mine (when I do) the same or similar to yrs.

Also, I have a few other questions for you:

1) forgive my stupidity, but what exactly are the differences between yr fish-tailed setting and a shared-prong setting?

2) yr rings seem very flush, how high/ low is the "head" on yr e-ring? I've tried on several combinations and found that if the head on the e-ring is too low, it doesn't sit flush with the w-band. On the other hand, I am not keen on a high head, purely because i'm such a klutz and i'd be prone to hitting it against things all the time.

Appreciate your input.

I''d just like to add that I like the look of your fish-tale setting better than a "regular" shared prong (if there''s such a thing). Just not sure exactly what are the differences, both from aesthetics (the stones seem more embedded) and comfort points of view. Also, yr stone seems to sit very low and from reading yr various threads, it seems like you did specify a very low setting but at the same time yr rings would still sit flush together. How was this achieved?

Thanks, Lynn.

Hi! OF COURSE you have my "permission" to have rings made similar or exactly like mine! You didn''t have to ask, but how thoughtful that you did. I am honored and flattered. Thank you. xoxoxo!

My rings are a stunning set, for sure. I really do love them, and get so many compliments. And with a honkin'' 3 carat stone... well, that would just make things even BETTER!

I''m not sure of the the "technical" terms for the workmanship styles or techniques, so I will attach a few pictures to try to explain what I mean.

There is a HUGE difference between the look of shared prong and fishtail pave. For starters, here''s a side photo of my old ring (shared prong) next to my new ring.

Now, as for the "sitting flush" aspect... yes, they do sit flush and yes, I wanted my stone to sit as low as was possible, and it does. It really only sits up the height of the diamond. There is no dead (air) space under the culet.

WF acheived this by the way they crafted the prongs. The prongs are integrated into the ring (not a peg head) - and they seem to come straight up from the shank and then once they "clear" the shank, they swoop out to cup the stone. Let''s see if I can find a good picture to show the detail of this...

One more, good detail of the head...

Lorelei,
What a sweet thing to say! Thank you!

Thank you soooo much, Lynn, for your replies and infor provided.

So the integrated head is cast from a mould, as one "whole" thing, whereas for the peg head, the head and the shank are made separately and soldiered together?

I wonder if my local jeweller can make this? I am so nervous abt sending my stone all the way to the US and back to Singapore. I am not worried abt WF, just the risk of sending it LD both ways. I know, to get the best result, my best bet would be to send my stone to WF and have them do it (oh, I wonder if WF would custom-make stones that are not their own)?

I am going to the local jeweller now and ask them. Fingers crossed!

Your rings truly are very beautiful

Lien,
Who''s the local jeweller? I need something set (look at my "Violet Stone" thread). I''d be grateful if you could get a quote.

Hi Harriet,

Sorry I''ve been meaning to reply to your question. Going over to that thread right now.

Thanks! It''s in the Coloured Stones forum.

So, I went to the local jeweller and whilst they say they can make it exactly the same as yrs, they advised me to do something slightly different. I think it is a case of what they''re familiar with and I am too chicken (whilst rather disappointed) to ask them to veer away from their comfort zone. I am going to try and describe it and I know I am going to do a poor job of it LOL: the shank is slightly less rounded, rather more sharp at the edges. It should still be fish-tailed but not sure it would look the same as yrs. There will be 6prongs, not 4 (they say to make it in 4, the prongs would be too thick). The stone will sit as low as possible and the thinkness of the band is about 2.1-2.2mm each.

I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed!!

Thanks again for yr help.
