Calling His Mother While Black

Add this to the list of things it is dangerous to do while black. A couple of days ago I failed to post that a white man went up to a black man who had been living in the same New York City building in which he lived for a year and told him to get out of his building. Now I wish I had posted that story. It is just too much. Too, too much. If you don't post the stories while they are hot, no one sees them and they are forgotten. The world is simply unreal. This story is unreal.

Here is an excerpt of the story that was published on December 24 in "The New York Times".

"A Black Man Was in His Building’s Lobby. A White Neighbor Accused Him of Not Living There."

"'What are you doing in my building?' a white man asked a young black man in the lobby of an Upper East Side apartment building. 'You don’t live here.'

And so begins the latest viral video in which a white person accosts a black person for no apparent reason.

In this case, Chika Okafor, 29, a producer for the sports website Bleacher Report, was waiting in the lobby of his apartment building last Wednesday for a Lyft to take him to his company’s holiday party.

But as Mr. Okafor and a friend, also black, stood in the lobby, the unidentified white man berated them.

'I’ve never seen you before,' Mr. Okafor’s white neighbor said. 'I’ve lived here 27 years.'

Mr. Okafor says he has lived in the building, a four-story walk-up on First Avenue near 74th Street, since last year."

Thank you, LLJsmom. And white people are shocked that there is a movement called "Black Lives Matter"!!! Can you imagine why anyone might think black people need to be mentioned and white people do not?

Yes, it is still happening. 2018 is a year of racism in the United States. If you are white, it is just not happening to you.

The next time someone vehemently objects to a T-shirt or sign that says, "Black Lives Matter" and replies that "All Lives Matter" remember that this doesn't happen to ALL people.

That these simpletons can be emboldened by the idiot in office and think this attitude will be sustainable is beyond me.

I am always a little bit shocked when I read stories like this because they defy human decency. I would expect people to treat others with decency if that can't work up kindness but that is sadly not the case.
